For the first time today I received a "Broken down vehicle" TMC warning (C710, Miomap 3.2 Feb 07 version ITIS). I've never seen this warning in the UK before - the usual warnings are "Congestion", "Accident", "Lane closed", "Hazard" and "Road Closed".

When I was in Belgium recently I saw a "Congestion clearing" message (or something like that - I forget the wording).

Anyway, despite the recent update the TMC reporting is still borked.

The main problem - ignoring data accuracy - still seems to be that the direction flow in the main heading doesn't match the direction flow in the sub heading. I think this is because the software implementation can't understand the concept of left hand road driving in the UK. If you imagine that the UK is a right hand road drive country then the main heading and the sub heading agree with each other.

2 questions:

1) Will Mitac ever release a fix for this (do they even care if their software is flawed for UK use)?

2) Which heading is correct - the main heading of the sub heading? I thought until last week that the main heading was correct but now I'm not so sure.

On too many occasions the Mio has tried to route me around jams on the other side of the road. It's very frustrating. Yet sometimes, despite the obvious direction flow bug, it seems to get it right. This is even more frustrating because you don't know when to trust it and when not to.

Anyway, could someone suggest a sensible way of making Mitac aware of the direction flow bug? I bet the bug only impacts UK use (left hand road direction driving) and that Mitac will be completely unaware of the bug if it uses continental Europe as its beta test ground.

It's bloody annoying and so simple to fix (surely as simple as the left side highway exit icon which appeared for the first time for the UK in Miomap 3.2).

Do we know that the TMC reporting is down to Mio?

Are Mio simply reporting the information received and part of the problem is therefore down to iTIS or TrafficMaster Question

How much of what we see is Mio and how much is reliant upon the source Question

We need to resolve this before blaming any particular party for a 'problem' Exclamation

After all, as I have pointed out before, there are only so many ways to identify a stretch of road and in my experience, if you use the heading for guidance to see if you're likely to be in the area - the sub-heading and detail then pinpoint the problem and direction of travel affected, whilst the heading only identifies the stretch of road affected.

Does anybody know if TomTom TMC or any other GPS system is any better or worse than Mio Question
