OK.
I have a Nuvi660 with GTM-21. I actually managed to get some TMC messages tonight... (Locked onto channel 187, sitting in my office, all sorts of magic incantations about trying to get the signal stronger). Lots around Heathrow of course, including the M4, A4 and spur road.
So I tell it to navigate to T3 @ Heathrow. It does, and of course routes right through traffic.
Now on the TT is used to have a bar on the RHS of the screen. Showed if traffic info was up-to-date, or problems, showed where in relation to you and the destination any problems were... (I only wish it had been accurate... Even remotely). But at a glance it was really easy to see. And of course it showed the icons on your route for traffic & delays (Sadly not for stuff that wasn't on your route).
But the Nuvi-660 seems to have no way to tell you about traffic. The reviews all show Nuvi's with fancy graphics & icons showing delays, accidents, construction etc. However nothing appears on mine. Unless I spend time I can't afford when driving continually swapping between the map & settings = traffic icon (If lit) = Then finally details & next/prev...
The Interface seems a little... How shall we say... Pathetic when it comes to traffic. And down right dangerous when driving... It requires ALL of your attention to find anything out... And you even have to hunt for the detour button...
Or am I missing something? Is there something more I need to set on the unit that I missed? Or has it really been dumbed down to the point where not only does the GTM-21 not work in the UK well, it also doesn't bother to show you the traffic that it might eventually pick up?

If you had the traffic information before you set up a route, it will automatically guide you around the traffic (if you have set this in the Avoid settings), and hence there is now no traffic on your route for it to warn you about.
If you get the information about delays on your route after it is calculated, a red triangle will appear on the screen. You can click this and it will list all the traffic relevant to your route, and offer you the ability to avoid it. If you want this to happen for all traffic on the route, one way is to go back to the Where To? menu, select Recent destinations, and reselect the top (ie current) destination - this will recalculate your current route allowing for the traffic.
Personally, I like to look at the traffic and decide for myself what to do, even in some cases I will still head towards the traffic to see if it clears before I get there.
It's certainly not quite as good as the RHS visual option that TomTom offer, however, you should find the accuracy of the traffic data (where it works) to make the loss of this feature worthwhile _________________ Please don't be offended if I do not reply to a PM - please ask questions via the forums.

Same here... I abhore 'systems' that don't give me enough info to decide myself. I don't mind advice. I do mind being treated as something that can't ptocess the information to make up my mind myself. The reviews all looked good. It's a real shame Garmin seem to have altered the software to really dumb it down a long long way.

Yeah. I had a TT500. I thought the traffic over the Internet was great. Till I realised it bore no relation to reality... (That was the first time I used it & struck traffic ata standstill on M4 J8/9 with no warnings in sight).
