Dear,
I switched from the Magellan/ipaq to Emtac/Ipaq. Now the position on the many maps I created in Ozi pc and runned in ozi Ce, appers NOT precise anymore. The gap is large enough to make them unusable

example:
13'18"N, 31'14"E (reading)
13'21"N, 31'18"E (previous, correct, map)

After trying any possible setting on the poor Crux-view software that allow the reading of the Emtac, I arrived to the conclusion that this is due to the fact that the output of Emtac use a unsettable default datum - wgs84 I think- while the scanned map was done in Ozi-pc with an other datum (roma40)
(the ONLY available topo maps covering the whole Italy, btw!)

On the Meridian, this datum was settable on the the receiver and the positioning was perfect.

Do you thing this diagnostic is correct? If yes is there anything I could do, beside throw the Emtac away? Sad

Is there any way to "compennsate" this on ozi pc, calibrating the maps? Such as introducing a "manual" numeric compensation when calibrating? Or a transforming coefficent or similar?

Thanks

massimo

hi there,

yes, most of the GPS receivers nowadays are assuming that the WGS84 datum is used. The only thing you can do is to recalibrate your maps to that datum.
