Hi,

I had Garmin for over 4 years in the USA, then moved to Europe a few months ago and purchased a TomTom One. Works fine for daily navigation but there are a few things I found which are a pain in TomTom and thinking to revert to Garmin and buy a Nuvi 660.

Because I did not play with the Nuvi 660, I have a few question, if anyone with hands-on experience on the Nuvi can help me. here they are:

1. Is it possible, while navigating, to tap on the map and get additional information displayed about a waypoint? (e.g. a restaurant's name etc.) In the TomTom to get this information it takes 4-5 taps in average and is which is very distracting while driving.

(As a sales rep I have my customer database in the GPS and have the unit alert me when I am in the proximity of my clients; and I need to get the customer's name quickly.)

2. Is it possible to change the 2D/3D display of the Nuvi's map with one tap, or have to dig deeper into the menus? How easy this process is?

3. When programming the Nuvi to alert in the proximity of a waypoint, what it gets displayed, just a generic name as a "Restaurant" or the name of the place as well?

4. Read in other posts that the screen is scrolled unevenly, in a jerky way. Any feedback on this?

Thank you for all your help.

Locations will only display if you have them in Favourites (as apposed to POI). You can't get information without going through a number of screens. Bear in mind that whilst most nav systems do have some personal data type of function (Favourites / POIs) they are NOT intended for a lot of this sort of use whilst navigating.

yes - tap the map and it wil go to 2D. BACK will go back to 3D.

You can put other info (eg Telephone num) into the name of the waypoint - it will then display on the banner when you enter the proximity zone.

Not noticed any particular jerkiness on my 660. If you don't have a route set it will "pause" at road junctions as it needs to determine which way you are going. If travelling at high speed with a route set (or not) you will notice some jerkiness due to the 1 second update rate that is usually used in such systems.
