Hi folks. Have the very good media player installed and working ok. Been greedy and wanting an Mp3 player on my TT as well I am stuck as to how to actually install the downloaded files from Maintec for their Mp3 player. The instructions are not plain enough for me to work out how or what to un-zip here / there. Also am similarly stuck on the Tripmaster software app. Is there a clever 'bod' who has worked it out ? Ta V much.

Assuming you're working from http://www.maintech.de/nonprofit-projects/opentom-mp3-player/ here are my notes on their installation steps (it's been a while since I did it on my 500)
1 Create a backup of your SD card - or on the GO 700 - of your harddisk. This step is pretty important and we won't take any responsibility if something goes wrong. If your GO starts to navigate as badly as your front-seat passenger - don't blame us.
[f1rb] I'd suggest you use an entirely new SD card - especially if you want space for mp3 files. I'm not sure whether you need any of the files from the original SD card, so you could just put it to one side and start with a completely empty card.
2 Save /ttsystem and the /opentom folder.
[f1rb] Rename the ttsystem file to ttsystem.orig, you won't have an opentom folder yet. If you're using a new SD card you won't need to bother with this.
3 Unzip the downloaded archive on your device overwriting /ttsystem and the /opentom folder.
[f1rb] Unzipping the downloaded file should give you the ttsystem file, and an opentom folder with lots of other stuff in it. You may want to unzip the download to somewhere on your PC first, see what you've got, then copy the files onto the SD card
4 Put some MP3s into /opentom/media
[f1rb] As it says! Some mp3s might not work properly, e.g. variable bitrate or mono.
5 Power on the device and start rockin'.
[f1rb] Good luck!
If you do want to do all this on a single card, to get your navigation back you can leave the OpenTom folder alone, and rename the new ttsystem file to ttsystem.mp3, rename the old one from ttsystem.orig back to ttsystem, and restart. If you're going to do this, you really want to make sure you've got a backup!

Hi. Many thanks for helping. Unfortunatly I must be Mr Thicky of the year. I just don't understand the ttsystem bit. There is already an ttsystem file on the TT. Does this new one replace the one on the tt and what do I do with the other files I downloaded. Have tried putting these files on but then TT won't recognise and start. I know there must be a simple ans but I am missing something.

Have a read of #8 on This Page, which details how to "copy" your card to a larger one, once you have the new larger card working and the original card safe you can mess about without too much of a worry - Mike

The Opentom download replaces the ttsystem file with its own. So if you're dedicating an SD card to the mp3 player you can just overwrite this file (and remove all the maps etc.) To maximise mp3 space, it might be worth starting from a blank card and just putting the Opentom files on it.
The comments about renaming ttsystem would apply if you're trying to use a single SD card for both functions, or if you have a 900 so don't have the luxury of putting a known good SD card to one side.

Ah I may be getting it. You mean have a separate mem card for mp3 and another for navigation.I was trying to put it on the same card. Can it go on the same card and work as a separate app like the media one does/

OpenTom takes over your TomTom, and when it's running you can't use any of the standard navigation software. Hence the need for two SD cards if you hope to swap back and forth without using a PC. I desperate you can put them both on the same card, but you need to (at least) change the ttsystem file to swap over, plus there probably won't be much spare space for MP3 files. If you're hoping to use the mp3 player while you're driving, then you'll need to have 2 SD cards and swap them on the go.
(Perhaps someone can come up with a utility for the TT software which does the ttsystem file swap and reboots, this would be the only way of changing over for a 900 without using a PC.)
