Hi,
I hope that somebody can help, I have a Garmin Streetpilot C510D and I'm trying to load maps of France from City Navigator NT v9 onto a 128MB SD card installed in the unit. The problem I have is that when I try to load onto the card it keeps telling me that the card is unavailable and there is not enough memory to load into the actual unit. I tried exporting onto card directly using a card reader/writer which was successful except that the unit won't read the maps off the card.
What am I doing wrong? Am I missing a driver or some such utility? Any help appreciated. |

Have you registered the unit with Garmin.
Maps are unlocked to a specific unit.
Have you the correct unlock codes for the unit?
France will require more that 128MB.
Are you using Mapsource on the PC to select and transfer the maps to the unit?
Does Mapsource see the Unit?

Have you the correct unlock codes for the unit? They are from the paperwork with the unit.
France will require more that 128MB. It's North and Western France, which is 112MB

Does Mapsource see the Unit? It sees the unit and will add upto 26MB of the maps (currently Britany and Normandy only) It does see the 128MB memory card but says the card is not ready to use.

I have added three sections of map onto the unit memory but it does not addanything to the memory card, I have exported the required map sections to the memory card, but when i insert the memory card into the unit it does not detect any of the maps. I have tried using other memory cards and the same thing happens. |

What do you see within the card?
It should contain a folder called Garmin.
Within it, I see gmapsupp which is an IMG file with a mapsource icon.
I also see a POI file with the speed cameras. |

Does GARMIN write hidden files onto the card? I've not tried this with my nuvi - so can't answer this myself.
But.. A 128MB card will not hold 128Mb data - there is always a little lost when it is formatted for holding the File Allocation Tables. For the price I would buy a bigger card (or borrow one from a friend to try). Amazon had 2GB SD cards for £8 the other day - I bought a couple - they work OK with my PDA. _________________ Phil |

Sorry - mis-read one of your posts walk21. You have already tried other cards.
As strumble said... There should be a folder at the top level of your card named Garmin. If you have this and place the card in a card reader then certainly POILoader will recognise this card as a valid Garmin device for transfer. Try Mapsource with this.
Can you see the SD card when in your 510D and connected to your PC? Can you copy (from PC file explorer) ANY file onto this card whilst it is in your 510?
Try formatting the SD card from the PC whilst it is in your 510.
You could also try a reset of your 510D (do please take a backup first - just in case). _________________ Phil |
