Connector for IPOD and RDS-TMC

Hi

In several posts there are pepole talkin about this is an serial port.
Does anybody have info about witch part of the connector
that is what ex transmit , recive, gnd, power ...
I can see 7 connection points.

Also in addition to this I have opend my RDS-TMC
and I can read of the PCB:
BELFAST PCB REV:3.0
GFIRM 94V-0
0638 E209262

Does this give som info about the construction and content of this PCB?

This shoud be an RDS reciver with serial communication to the TT x10

7 connection points? I think you will find it has only four. Ground, power, RxD and TxD

Belfast was the internal code name of TomTom for the TMC receiver. Not sure what exactly you are trying to achieve. (No, you can't connect the iPOD and the TMC receiver at the same time.)

Sorry I mean 6.
I can see that the connector have 2 on the outer ring and 4 on the pin.

My intrest in this is only in TMC!
I work with alot of comunication equimpment so i whant to
connect this to a computer and try to revive some data.
And with this also see if I can improve antenna and overall performance.

So Im also intrested in what pin have rx tx gnd and power.
naturally its easy to connect this to the cardock and start to mesure
(at leest for power and gnd) with a multimeter.
But if sombody knows about the chip I can start and see if there is optimal power for the chip and so on.... Idea

If you are going to try connecting the unit to an RS232 input on the PC you might strugle unless you convert the output to a compatible voltage level. You are correct there are 6 connections on the Plug, but only four are actually used IIRC - Mike

Some update after a little seartch on internet.

OK
there is RS-232 9600bps 8 data maby no pariy and 1 stopbit.
IPOD use almost RS-232A thats TTL signaling with 3,3V
that can be easly converted to RS-232C with an MAX232

My guess is that TomTom uses this also based on that the look of IPOD
cable (Idont have one,only pictures)

Is there any kind human that can mesure pin connection on there IPOD cable and give som feed back here?

Hello!

I opend my TomTom TMC Reciever too and now find this treath.

I like to use it in my Car in a fixed installation and search a way to connect it with my Cars Antenna to recieve more Radiostations in a better quality.

Has anybody an idea, how i can connect an external Antenna?

Welcome to the forum, I suggest you have a read through This Thread, I appreciate it runs to a few pages but there are instructions within it (see user Vicky's posts) for coupling the RDS-TMC to an external aerial, this action will invalidate your waranty, and requires the use of a soldering iron - but I can say coupling the unit in this way does increase reception, the second post by GizmoB73 details the actual connection points in the RDS-TMC device - Mike
