Nuvi 660 and stuck on booting - again!

For the second time (I returned a unit to Halfords the first time), I used POILoader to load lots of POI's to my Nuvi and it has stuck on "loading maps". If I leave it with power, it says with that message, if I disconnect it from power, it switches off.
I cannot get it to show on the PC to delete the POI's.
Anyone any ideas? I held the bottom right corner whilst switching on and it deleted the user bits but that's it

Saw another thread on this subject. This must be a common problem with Nuvi as a few people have had to return their machines as it got stuck on booting after loading some POI's. This is my second, Halfords changed another one about three weeks ago. Only bought the first one under two months ago! Is there a limit to the number of POI's you can have with the 660, that's all I can think of?
Tried the Garmin fix with holding in pre boot mode but the machine just switches off after about a minute.
Phone call to Garmin tomorrow or back to Halfords.

So how common is this then , not just with the 660 but the 360 or any other Garmin? The Halfords guy said it was really unusual to have one, let alone two with this problem and it wasn't very common.. The support lady in Garmin said just take it back to Halfords and get it changed, no problem.
What is happening now is a "specialist" is going to collect it and put it on a rig that should tell what the problem is. If it can't be fixed, I want to change to something else. Once bitten, or should I say twice bitten, three times shy!

All I can say is that my 660 (also bought from Halfords) is running with the PGPS Camera warnings plus about 100 POIs of my own - no problems at all - but that's only around 13,600.

Well, the Halfords tech wizard couldn't get it to boot and Garman wanted it back to look at it, leaving me with nothing in the meantime. Persuaded them to give me a TomTom P910 in its place and £40 back on the price. So we are now TomToming it again.
Shame as I did love the clear bright screen etc, so back with hormonal Jane again. At least it also does text to speech which I just can't do without now. Garman did say this was an unusual fault and Halfords said it was the first time they had seen it in my branch. Or the second as it was my second device in under two months.
Good result at least, thanks to Halfords.

Shame about your experience - I like the 660 (after many years of being a TT user).

With regards to TTS I must be one of the few that haven't found a good use for it in the UK and I suspect that this is because our street naming (ie positioning of road names) is atrocious in the most part. (It's better in new estate areas but the centre of towns/cities - forget it :D ) Trying to look for a particular street by name can be positively dangerous when driving. I tend to glance at the display, and count the streets before the turning it wants me to take - but I guess it's down to personal preferences.

Now I could see the advantage in the US (and some European countries) where they have very good street signing - at the expense of having a cluttered skyline above their intersections.
