Hello,
I am off to the shops very shortly to buy a TomTom One New Edition.
Which is best though, the GB version with Teleatlas maps or the European version with NavTeq maps?
I will likely only be useing it in the UK, so it is the quality of the UK maps that is most important to me.
Does anyone know if the NavTeq UK maps are more up to date or detailed than the Teleatlas ones?
Many Thanks,
Mary-Jayne |

Hi Mary-Jayne,
Firstly, to the forum!
I think that the regional (Tele Atlas) maps may be slightly newer than the European (Navteq) maps. E.g. the Green Road roundabout in Headington, Oxford, is now a doughnut roundabout controlled by traffic lights and Tele Atlas maps have it right whilst the Navteq maps have it still like a conventional roundabout.

Ireland is now on both maps, however if you ever need to use the SatNav in the Isle of Man or in the Channel Islands (i.e. Jersey and Guernsey, etc) then you can only do that with the Navteq maps.
I’m currently using a TomTom ONE NE Europe (Navteq) and an iPAQ 2210 running TomTom Navigator 6 with the Tele Atlas maps and they have both given good results in Oxfordshire and Devon.
Don’t forget that SatNavs are a driver’s aid, like a paper road atlas.

I live in Guernsey & have the map of Western Europe version 660, that I downloaded from Tomtom around Christmas. It doesn't have the Channel Islands at street level, it only shows the outline of the islands and shows your position within that outline. Oh but it does have the words "St Peter Port" at the docks.
Does this mean that I don't have a Navteq map or is there a newer version that includes the Channel Islands at street level _________________ TT Go Essential |

Which TomTom product are you using?
Only TomTom Rider and TomTom ONE NE Europe use Navteq maps.

Hi Calomax,
Just to prove it ;) , here's a screen shot of St Peters Port, Guernsey which I took from my TomTom ONE NE Europe:
Sorry it took a while. Once I had swapped the original 1GB card with a 2GB one, I was able to take screen shots.

Thanks very much. Unfortunately it hasn't displayed.
Anyway I am all set up with Navigator, so I don't fancy going to the expense of replacing it with a ONE. I know my way round Guernsey so the map would only been of interest & to test the device except for the very occasional trip to Jersey when it would have been useful. Otherwise Navigator suits me fine for whenever we go to Europe or the UK. _________________ TT Go Essential |
