I am a tomtom one newbie.

I would like to do the following:
1. Buy TomTom one in Germany (with germany+austria+swiss maps).
2. Copy (before activation) all contents of SD+maps to 4gb SD.
3. Activate maps (germany+...)
4. Buy US maps.
5. Add US maps to same SD.

Question:
Should this be possible ?
Will having a large SD slowdown the tomtom one ?
Should I use two SDs ? (one for US, one for germany)

Thanks in advance for help
Al

Many people seem to be having problems with 4GB SD cards (as they do not work in the same way as 2GB and below).

However, looking at the list on the TomTom website:

Quote:
What size memory card (SD card) do I need to install my downloadable map?

Map of Western Europe v 6.6 1GB

Map of Italy v6.6 512MB

Map of Spain and Portugal v6.6 512MB

Map of The Netherlands, Belgium and Luxemburg v6.6 256MB

Map of France v6.6 512MB

Map of Great Britain v6.6 512MB

Map of Alps v6.6 256MB

Map of Germany, Austria and Switzerland v6.6 512MB

Map of Poland, Czech Republic, Hungary and Slovakia v6.6 256MB

Map of Norway, Finland, Sweden and Denmark v6.6 512MB

Map of USA & Canada v6.6 1GB

It looks like you should be fine with a 2GB card.

Buy a decent high-speed brand, not just the cheapest. There are several recent posts on the forum that recommend specific brands, if you search.

Finally, the Germany/Austria/Swiss map should be pre-activated when you buy the ONE. You will be able to copy it to a new card with no problems. Again, check the forums, there is even an FAQ for this topic, in the "sticky" topics at the top of the list (#8 IIRC).

I have full western europe maps, and US/Canada maps working just fine on a 2Gb transcend card. (note these are the downloaded USA maps (914Mb-versus the DVD version that is 1.4GB)

Performance doesnt seem to have been impaired as I guess when a map is not selected it is just occupying diskspace.

I have quite a few additional POI's on both sets of maps & still have 105Mb spare.

You don't need to copy before activation. If you copy everything on an activated card to a bigger empty card, the new card will automatically be activated.

You can have Europe and USA on the same card but there's not really that much point in doing so. It's not as if you can drive across a border from one to the other - you'll have plenty of time to swap cards!
