I have purchased and successfully installed TTN6 on my Tungsten E2. Everything seemd to be functioning as well as TTN5 did on this device. I am, however, having a irritating problem. The application works fine, but when I exit the program, and try to start TTN6 again, I get a "Free Memory Too Small" error with the following message: "Not enough Dynamic Heap Memory to run this application." The program runs fine after a soft reset.

I called TomTom support and they suggested I download and install a utility called MEMINFO. They told me I would have to run this utility every time I wanted to run TTN6. I told them that if that were the case, I would just do the soft reset routine.

Does anyone have any insight into this problem?

Thanks in Advance,
Bill

I have a Zire 72 and I believe it has much more Dynamic Heap then the E2. You can also buy UDMH which is a Palm program that uses your free memory for Heap. It works pretty good for high Heap programs like games.

Let me know how you make out. I have a friend with a E2 and he was not sure if it will work.

Did TomTom tell you your device was not supported?

The TomTom support tehcnician tha I talked said that although my E2 was not on their compatilbility list, it would work. The support technician said that the E2 is basically the same processor as the Treo.

Like I said, after a soft reset, everything works fine. Is UDMH fairly easy to configure and use. I wouldn't want to screw something up!

Thanks,
Bill

Like everything I would backup your palm before you did anything. A good program is BackupMan and it has a trial that works for weeks.

UDMH also has a trial so you can try it out. Basically I would try to clear off as much memory as you can. Install and go into the program. Activate it and try TomTom out. I think you can buy the program for less then $10.

Let me know.

This is how I have remedied this situation. I installed a soft reset program into the same category that I run TTN out of. If I get the dynamic heap message, I just do a soft reset with the program so I don't have to take the PDA out of the cradle. Maybe low-tech, but it gets the job done!

Thanks for the suggestions!

I also recently installed Navigator 6.010 on my Tungsten E2 and found it is running fine. I've only used it for short trips so far (20 miles in a semi-rural area) but have planned longer routes OK. It is fairly slow planning a route of 125 miles (over 1 minute) but that's to be expected on a lower end device like this I guess.

The routing does seem to be more sensible once it realizes I'm in a shortcut through back streets on the way to work, but I'm not sure if this is due to better maps or routing algorithms.

I would get the Dynamic Heap Memory error under Navigator 5 too, as well as occasional crashes while navigating, so I don't think it is specific to Navigator 6. What seemed to help was removing unneeded software from my Palm. I had installed the trial of Agendus which took up several MB so I removed that, also removed AvantGo content.
