right, an update for different units:

between myself and ash we've had a bit of a play and can confirm that the voice files from an i3 will work on the nuvi 360 and the files from the nuvi will work with the i3 (obviously not the tts voices though!)

so, from this we are assuming that it will work between different units AND different versions of the same voice (version on my nuvi was newer than that of the i3 but still worked fine). however, remember that, as with ALL 3rd party software, use of it is at your own risk and has no warranty etc etc - having said that Ash10 has a proven record of decent software so there shouldn't be any problems, or if there is he'll fix it pretty quick :D

eg:

not sure if this is exactly how it is but you get the idea!

also, i'd recommend using just the uk or usa voice files as each voice file is in alphabetical order by language:

Part # French
000
001 1st
002 2nd
003 3rd
004 4th
005 5th

023 [click]
024 [bong]
025 continue
026 dans
027 fed du meter
028 destination
029 de ca posibble
030 deux
031 dix
032 dix-ouite
033 dix-neuf
034 dix-sept
035 douze

eg if you changed the french file and used your new english voices (in the same order as the english file) then when it looked for 'right' the french file would tell the i3 to use sound clip 010 however, if you used the order from the english or american files then 010 is '9th' so instead of saying 'right' it would say '9th' - not very helpful...

you could, if you wanted, translate all the french into english and work out a new order for the french file and use it that way, but just remember that the relevant phrase is in a specific place in the file and this position differs between languages!

The voice samples on (most) Garmin units are lumped together in a single VPM file - Voice Utility will take a VPM file and split it into its component samples.

You can then edit/replace/record your own samples - Voice Utility will then convert your new samples to the correct format, and join them back into a single VPM file - which can then be installed back onto the unit.

8) Not so bad MaFt :D

- au boude la route should be "au bout de la route" (at the road end)
- calculancure should be "calcul en cours" (the famous calculating)
- de ca posibble should be "dés que possible" (as soon as possible)

By the way, I have tried your tool Ash and it doesn't work very well Confused
I have only tried to change the "bong" and "bong bong" and the result is that some other words have disappeared (roundabout for instance)
Will do another try....

Voice Utility works fine. I've used it to Morph all wav on my .vpm file. It's OK !
Perhaps you make a mistake... Rolling Eyes

I have the same problem.
Just wonder if there is a limitation in size for the wave file ?
For instance can we replace a "2 second" sound by a "10 second" one ?

I have tried to modify just the Recalculating wav.081 on both the American and English voice files and after it is joined back to a .vpm. when using either voice in Garmin Moblie XT it misses serveral other words that weren't even modified, I hope the developer reads these and can fix the problem as it would be a great program if it worked properly

Thanks in advance Phill

There is currently a limit of 16Mb per sample, prior to it being converted to the required format - this should be plenty enough.

Is this problem occuring across different languages - can I assume that Jamas is using French and other are using English?

Could somebody host (and PM me the link) the offending samples/header, and I'll take a look at what's going on... ;)

Thanks Phill

That's odd - what format is your new sample?
