Ho there ...

I know in the past there was a procedure to create hiw own autio file to be used for speeed cam alerting, for example, by modifying the data.chk file.

In my case, I just would like to add 1 or 2 peronal voice waring, for example 1 for speedcam and 1 for petrol station. when I say "add", it could also be "replace" on the those that are by default on the device.
I do not want more than 1 or 2.

So I saw a Sticky on this forum, but wondering what is the best procedure to make this possible ?

Many Thanks !

Record your warning using the PC, then convert the sound file to ogg format 22050Hz sample rate using Audacity.
Name the sound file so it is an exact match to the POI file you want the warning for and place the audio file in the map folder with the POI files.
Configure your warnings, or if already configured reconfigure them otherwise the warning won't be activated - Mike

Wahou !
Is it as simple as that (compared with 1 or 2 years ago) ...
that means my new ogg will be added to the default list of warning (Bong, Polite, etc etc ...), or will my ogg just not be visible in the sound list, but just associated to my POI category as per the file name ?

Many Thansk.

The Warning won't actually apear to be selected, all you do is configure your Warn When Near POI and the first bit where you select the sound doesn't appear if there is a suitably named ogg file in the map folder, you still have to select the distance and "if on route" checkbox - Mike

Sorry, my english is not so good as to understand your English Embarassed

So If I understand well, by copying an ogg file that is the same name as the POI category, and selecting the option to warn that category, it will not ask for the sound I want to use, because it is automatically recognizing there is a sound associated with that category because of its filename ... correct ?

Also, the new sound I'll copy will not appear to the standard list of sounds that come by default with the TOMTOM , correct ?

Many Thanks !

Yes, correct both times! Thumbs Up

Make sure the sound file is named EXACTLY the same as the .ov2 file.
Also, the .ogg file needs to be recorded at 22050Hz sample rate for the standalone sat-navs or 16000Hz for PDAs.

If you add an ogg for an existing category, You MUST go through the 'warn when near' set-up again, for the TomTom to register the ogg file exists.

"Audacity" can be downloaded HERE
or you could try
4Musics WAV to OGG Converter v2.1
Which converts WAV to OGG in one click. Not sure how it sets the sample rate though. (thanks to member 'FordFocus' for the link)

ok, I need to give it a try.
Many thanks for this.

P.S. : Was not TOMTOM supposed to provide this functionality in a firmware or an other ?
I mean the possibility with HOME to add our own voice files ?

Haven't tried it, yet, but does the ogg need to be placed in the same directory as the ov2 files ?

Try THIS for a start.

If you search for 'ogg' there are numerous Threads on the Topic, and Links to downloads.;)

This process was announced here, on 13th October 2006 and discussed in this thread. Thumbs Up

For anybody who wants to try compiling a .ogg file try this site:www.research.att.com/~ttsweb/tts/demo.php just type in your sentence download it and then load the downloaded file into audacity and then save as an .ogg, you can only do one file at time, create any phrase you want and you can edit in audacity if required and it is simple.
i.e for public toilets "public toilets ahead anybody want a wee wee" for a humerous phrase, i will leave it at that.
Dont forget that the saved saved .ogg filename must be the same as the poi file you created it for.
