Hi
I am now finding that the supplied find address 'database' with my satnav has serious limitations in as much that if I need to locate a postcode that has an actual street name/number then its great, but living where I do in a rural location where a postcode will have many 'named houses' only within a village, yet a postcode search will give me only a point of postcode refence, so I need more named house details.
I have found that, through a local council run web site, that an OS map based system would give me the fine detail that I require, namely that where a named house is located within a postcode and I wondered if my Garmin might be able to download another database/software that would give me this result?????
Where do I start?
Anyone with a similar problem? Can you direct me to another recent thread or advise.
Many thanks |

Most SatNav units are OS map based (I know my Garmin has a copyright statement to Ordance Survey). I don't know any portable SatNav unit that can accurately place every single house number (and none do house names at all) - this is because of the way the postcode system works (and hence the data is simply not included in the mapping data used).
One or two SatNav units try to guess how far along a road a particular house number is though, with varied success.
I'd be interested to see a link to the website you mention to see if it actually provides any real detail on the problem and offers any sensible suggestions.
To answer your question though, there are no addons to Garmin that will provide this information, but equally there are no addons to any portable SatNav unit (that I'm aware of) that will do it at all. |

Thanks for your reply
Go to this site and go through opening hoops then select your postcode search and review info. My initial search was for TR166NX and lo and behold loads of house names with also the exact location of each house within that postcode highlighted by a circle. This would I would expect from this technology not a fudge full of errors/gimmicks.
