There is a ~400MB difference between the USA+Canada map and the North America map. What's the coverage difference? |

There is not much of a coverage difference. The smaller maps have a reduced set of environmental features (forests, rivers etc). I personally find that regretful.
By the way here are the upgrade instructions that were missing from the USA & Canada - DVD maps

I assume by smaller maps, you really mean maps with a smaller filesize:coverage area ratio. If that's what you meant, then I think I've just confirmed that you're correct. I found a lake that appears in the regional map and the North America map, but not on the USA+Canada map.
At the moment, it doesn't bother me. I favor the regional maps anyway because my 312 MHz processor is substantially slower to compute local routes on maps with large coverage (TomTom is obviously inefficient). And it's handy for those who have small capacity MMC cards to cut out the frills. |

Lutz,
I received the DVD map updates for the Us/Canada yesterday. I looked at that link for the install. I don't understand what this statement means:
"Note: The Product Code Card provided is valid for only one activation."
Does this mean I can only use the DVD once ? If I want other maps from the disc at a later date I'm I can't do it? Please clarify if you can. Thanks

No, it means that you can only use the Product Code to activate the maps on one device. In the past, TomTom have allowed an activation of the same maps on a second device after a week. _________________ Tim |
