ISTR there was an issue with an earlier version of TT that had problems with the POI file
where the POI categories were listed but if you tried to navigate to one it didn't work and this was solved by users installing the POI file from older maps/versions of TT
also, if, for instance, the teleatlas POI file was Xmbs and navteq was Ymbs stands to reason (although not neccesarily so when TT are concerned) the larger mbs file could have more POIs ?
so, would it be illegal to use the POI file that came with the Navteq map with a Teleatlas map ? _________________ SW

They are not the same.
I have WE v6.6(navteq) and Iberia v6.52(teleatlas).
The teleatlas has more poi´s,like car parking, pharmacy´s,police etc.The navteq does not have any of these in Portugal or Spain map region.
No problem if you live in the UK.They are listed.
I came across a poi.dat file with 68mb.They say that conbines the teleatlas and navteq poi's.Haven´t tried it yet.I need a 2gb sd card. |

Any chance of a url? | Come on chaps lets behave these files are covered by copy write, if you have purchased the maps you would own the POI data files, if someone has managed to concatenate the two POI files then we really don't want links to dubious information such as this - Mike |

My original post seems to have go astray so to repeat, I own/have both sets of maps (legally ie I paid for them).
I also posted without thinking about rights; equally, I am more than a bit p'd off that TT have castrated the POIs on my TT1v2Europe, presumably so as not to have to fit bigger memoryt cards. _________________ Henry |

Well...my post brought some legal questions.
I do own both maps.I payed for them.
Tomtom states that both versions(regional and full Europe)have no diferences. It´s not true.
POI´s like pharmacy´s,police,etc.ARE VERY IMPORTANT.
With the WE version, the closest one that i´m getting is +1000km away 8O !!I´m not in Australia :D
If someone decided to join the two poi.dat file(that i own the "license"),GREAT.
Copyright laws(like all laws),have what´s called the spirit of the law,the real intent of the law.
In using that poi.dat,at least to me,does not go against the real intent of that law.

Read the EULA I think you will find taking apart the software is not permitted, so not quite within the rules. I would suggest you use the POI files from this site as they are more up to date and accurate than the inbuilt ones supplied with the device. If the specific POI category doesn't exist start one off and others may well contribute with additional information - Mike |
