Excuse me for Advertising another site but I just stumbled across this collection of databases for european speed cameras. upon closer inspection proves to be quite consise.
http://www.radarsfixes.com/.
(france some 2000 fixed cameras, 1500 red light, 4000 mobile etc.)

Compared to the pgpsw euro database this is huge. Perfect for some continental driving. As soon as I get home to night I'm going to compare some of the locations to ones I've added to the pgpsw database myself for accuracy.

Now, they must be collecting data from somewhere, and I'm not about to rip off someone elses work, but I'm sure this is of interest to the Moderators. If not grab it while it's still there, as these sites can disapear as quick as they appear.

Very Very good. I checked the database today and found no aparent errors. Difficult to tell when you can't just drive down a road or two the check. I am off on holiday in france in a weeks time so i'll give it a good run.

I like the way the site works too, easy to check camera locations at a glance. Mabye a good idea for the pgpsw Web designers.

If you import the data into Microsoft autoroute and zoom out to the world map you will see camera locations on a small island in the Indian ocean
and also in the French West indies, Is this a case of Paradise Lost?

Ok. back from my hols now and a hard run for this database.

We went outbound from calais, around paris to lyon and onto the alps. On return a direct run from lyon through paris and back to calais.

No missing camers, active mobile sites seen, and very accurate locations.

Just downloaded this for my Navman F20 Europe.
What are the different camera types ?
RF - I presume this is Gatso type fixed cameras ?
RFR - I presume this is Red Light cameras ?
RM - I presume this is Mobile camera sites ?
ZD - I have'nt a clue what this is for ?

Can anybody give me the definitive answer on these !
Thanks in advance.

You are right on all the cameras and the ZD is Zone Dangerous. i.e. Black Spot, but no cameras.

Thanks for confirming and filling in the blank.
I am off to Portugal in August , so I am happy to have this extra bit of info to take with me.
I have just downloaded the Basic version , is it worth going for the Premium one ?

I have only ever used the basic version, I think the main difference is how you download them! It seems to be customisable.

Is there a version which shows the speed limit? There is a picture on their web page which shows a speed in a red circle, but the basic version is not speed zoned

So, to open an old can of worms .... what's the deal with the legality of driving in France with speed camera POIs on a navigation device? Yes, before anyone says "search the forum!", I've done that and found an awful lot of information, none of it conclusive. I thought I'd sussed it when I read the correspondence which one of the PGPSW members had had with the French police - but then other people seemed to be suggesting that that information was wrong. So - what's the score??

If you buy the premium package it'll give you a customisable download which gives you speed limits as an option.

You're right, jury is still out but my opinion is that most people have got all their infomation crossed. I'm trying to get some more rock solid information but it is difficult. I just found two more web sites that confim my findings HereandHere.
I believe that the illigal devices are the detectors and jammers as all websites agree that these are illegal and as stated on one of the websites will be confiscated if found in your car. But gps databases are public information and as such can be used as you see fit, which is poiniently expressed here.
Quote:
GPS speed camera detectors are also legal in both the UK and Europe because they use a database of camera locations and because this data is available to all members of the public,

And this website was updated on the 12/05/2007.

To get an accurate picture of what is legal and illegal would require an email to each european country each year for confimation. So I suggest you read between the lines, make your own decision and mind your speed and I'm sure you'll be fine. Wink

This is a useful page to have in your car, to wave under the nose of a French policeman if he gets stroppy

Crude translation.
Quote:
A warning one of radar...100% legal one
A warning device of radar is an object all simple one that uses:
- A legal technology: the GPS, that allows the warning one of radar of connaitre to every instant the position of the vehicle, his speed, his direction etc.
- Of public the news: the positions of the radars set up, the estimated positions or récurentes of the movable radars. These information are public and legal, the proof some is the very existence of this site internet.

Useful information. The only problem with that page that I can see is that it doesn't quote the authoritative sources of its information.

To be honest, if I was a French rozzer and I was having a bad day, and someone waved that page at me, I'd probably counter that just because a page on the internet says something doesn't make it correct, especially when there are no references quoted. Still, might be useful.

But the bottom line is that I'm not especially bothered if I don't have the French camera POIs on my device - pretty much all of the driving will be on motorways with 80mph limits, and I'm too much of a tight-wad to be damaging my fuel consumption figures by going any faster than that! ;)
