Garmin Nuvi 350

New to the wonderful world of car orientated sat navs and have a couple of questions, if any of you gurus out there would be kind enough to enlighten me, i would be most grateful:

1. Can these type of sat navs work in a similar fashion to my old garmin 12, which i used to use for navigation from grid to grid, rather than postcodes and roads etc?

2. Will my nuvi 350 operate at sea in this fashion if staying in coastal waters, i.e fishing trips?

yes. you can navigate to a lat/lon co-ordinate (or british national grid reference)

you will need to change the co-ordinate settings to the desired format in where to/co-ordinates/format

also, select your route preference as 'off road' and you will get a straight line to your destination (settings / navigation / route preference)

i'm not sure how it would compare to a unit designed specifically for use at sea. also remember that it won't give any mapping for the sea (rocks etc)
