|
|
Hi, I have just bought a new 1GB memory card for my GO300 because I had run out of space on the 128MB one that came with the camera.
However although I can copy the files from my PC backup easily enough and read the contents of both cards on Windows explorer, the TomTom unit refuses to recognise the new SD card. I even tried to format it again and renew the files but no luck.
I've also tried backing up and re-installing the back up to the new card using HOME but nothing seems to happen.
Is there something obvious that I'm not doing? |

Have a read through This Thread which details how to "Show Hidden Files" - if its not down to this issue the new card is probably not fast enough for the device to work correctly - Mike |

Hmmm. Sadly it appears that I have fallen into the "don't go and get the cheapest card you can find on E-bay" trap, as I already had hidden files checked and known files unchecked. I am however getting the picture of the card with an "X" through it as illustrated.
Oddly enough, the card packaging actually says "the high performance choice for digital image capture and storage. Recommended for use in digital cameras, PDA's, MP3's smartphones and more". It appears they may have lied. |

The packaging can claim or say anything it likes - that’s the gamble buying things like this on e-bay, get a reputable card from a decent supplier (that can be trusted not to have produced stickers with false imitation claims on the packet/ actual card) - they cost more but they do work, put the card you have aside for use in a digital camera or such like device - Mike |

Thanks again. Tried a re-format (twice), the TomTom unit isn't having any of it.
Got to be a cheap NFG card. |

Actually I managed with the original TomTom 128MB card in the end.
I was having trouble updating the main application file using the HOME interface. It kept saying it didn't have enough space but didn't seem to figure out that it was supposed to overwrite the old one (unless I was missing something). In the end I deleted the old one manually and then did the update. It complained a bit but eventually took it.
In the end I managed to do that, plus update the Pocket GPS camera files, add the POI camera grabbing software and some alternate colour schemes from TomTom.
And I've STILL got a whole 500k free! |

Nice one - now make sure you have a full back up of the card in its current state on your PC.
Other idea's to free up some space are to remove some of the unwanted voice files in the Voices folder, if you don't speak Greek why carry those files? (you can always return them to your card from the back-up).
I would free up some more space to be honest, 0,5MB is a little short - aim for at least 2MB free on the card - Mike |

Yes thanks, I did a back up before and another after.
I don't think I can free up anything else though. all the extra voices are gone. Only "Jane" remains. The biggest chunk of all is the GB map data. About 98MB if I remember correctly. Not much I can do about that I guess.
I guess that a decent new card should be fairly high on the shopping list. |
