I have seen some old posts on this but nothing recent, so I thought I would ask again in case any new has appeared.

I have a number of Audiobooks in MP3 format, but the Audiobook player seems to require Audible .aa format files.

Does anybody know if the TomTom Audiobook player on the 910 supports any other file formats, or know of a way to convert my MP3 files into .aa format?

I don't really want to play my audiobooks in the MP3 player as there are too many disadvantages to doing it this way. Confused

I have recently been downloading Audio books via Audible.com and also via other means (will not go into too much detail their!!!). Anyhow's as far as I know you will have to stick with the MP3 Player as I have for other audio books that are not purchased from Audible.com.

I belive there is a very good reason why you cannot convert your MP3 audio books into the Audible format and that is I bet you Audible.com / .co.uk have paid a lot of money for the sole rights for TOMTOM Audio books and they have to protect those rights via restricting the use of the player.

I have found the MP3 play quite good for playing audio books, for some reason the MP3 player knows what the next chapter is and automatically loads up the next chapter when the previous one finishes. You can can turn off the TomTom, go back into the jukebox and select "resume" and you are back where you left of on your MP3 Audio Book.

Can I ask what problems you encounter using the Mp3 Player for Audio Books?

The kind of problems I have are maily because it is designed for playing music rather than books.

For example, when I play music, I prefer it to shuffle the tracks randomly. I don't really want audiobooks appearing in the middle of songs. Also, some of my audiobooks last for quite a few hours. Sometimes I have had enough and just want to listen to some music for a while. If I do this, then I lose my place in the book. I also lose my place in the book if I add new MP3 files.

All in all, I find that the MP3 player is not very good for playing books.

I was hoping that there may be some other iPod style file format that can also be used in the Audiobook player if they won't let us create .AA files.

I see what you mean, I do not listen to MP3 songs on my TomTom, only audio books, so I do not encounter your problems of "shuffle" and going back to an audio book then having to find where I left off.

I can see its a problem, and maybe TomTom should not have limited the audio book player to Audible formats only.

Can anyone else help???

If you have to stick to the MP3 format in the end,i think that you could use the GENRE option in the tomotom so that it only brings up PODCASTS.
On your home pc right click on the/all podcasts and choose properties then advanced then change the GENRE to PODCASTS.
You can do the same for ROCK/POP/R N B/DISCO etc...Then copy all the MP3S to your tomtom 8)
