I chose the TT over the Nuvi for a few reasons:
#1 - price
#2 - ability to display POIs on the map while en route
#3 - more routing flexibility (avoiding roadblocks, itineraries, multiple waypoints, etc)

Had the Garmin Nuvi 350 for one day.It was impossible to use it in 3d mode.Way to much lag.
Very big antena.Very dificult to put in a pocket while walking around.
Had some nice features,2gigs internal memory,sd slot, earphone jack...
But in the end it all comes down to usability, and the tomtom one wins,no doubt about it.

Hi,

Owned both a TomTom One and a Nuvi 300.

For speed cameras and car kit the Nuvi wins (only alerted to cameras if doing within 5mph of the limit and repeating alert if exceeding the limit, unit switches on when power applied and switches off when power removed which means it can be hard wired out of site in the dash so its always there for cameras and only brought out when needed for navigation).

For navigation the TomTom winds hands down. More options, better navigation, more hacks, better useability. You name it and it does it better.

Now if the TomTom would do speed cameras and the power as above like the Nuvi I'd get one immediately!

Kind regards,

Mark

With the Tom Tom you can display GPS speed while you are in navigation mode. This puts the speed display closer to eye-line than the car speedo. I bought the One based on advice that the Nuvis can't do this.

you can do this on the nuvi but only in driving mode, that is, when not actually on an inputed destination, doesnt show it then.

I think the speed cams off here work very well, also Brodit make a holder with the power cable attached that the tomtom just slides onto.

Now if they made a device that comes on / off with the ignition and added hands free / bluetooth, which I incidentally thought it had, then they would be on to a winner.

Regards...Dil

The Nuvo DOES come on and off with the ignition. That is what I meant.

The camera warnings DO work well on the TomTom. But they work BETTER on the Nuvi. They only alert when when doing 35mph or over in a 40 zone which means you don't get announcements when in slow traffic. Should you exceed the limit near a camera then the Nuvi repeats its alert.

If the TomTom did both these like the Nuvi then I'd get one ASAP as in just about every other way the TomTom is better. IMHO of course.

Kind regards,

Mark
