I think we'd have heard about it if they had Malc.
Are you sure they came from your GO?
If you run a virus check over your GO do they get picked up?
You can either send it back to Amazon (who may say the GO was infected from your PC) or disinfect your GO and PC with an up to date virus checker.
Either way, it should be easy to remove and you would find it difficult to prove that the virus came from the GO. |

wow, just reading this and cant believe it :D
I too bought a tomtom 910 recently and when i connected it to my computer mcafee came up with the Win32.Perlovga warning!!!
This did happen shortly after connecting my brand new tomtom 910.
I had a few problems with my pc for a few days afterwards, till i read up about the Win32.Perlovga virus.Think it copies a file called SVCHOST.EXE to your harddrive immitating a real windows file Your best to read on mcafee/norton type websites to remove it :D My pc is fine now with a new installation of mcafee 2007 :D |

TomTom have admitted that a small number of 910's produced between September and November 2006 were infected with a low grade virus. Low grade or not it's very poor control.
The full press release:

Virus on TomTom GO 910
It has come to our attention that a small, isolated number of TomTom GO 910’s, produced between September and November 2006, may be infected with a virus. The virus is qualified as low risk and can be removed safely with virus scanning software. Appropriate actions have been taken to make sure this is prevented from happening again in the future.
Affected devices
It has been confirmed that a small number of TomTom GO 910 devices, produced between September and November 2006, and shipped with software version 6.51, may be infected with a virus.
Known risks
The viruses that were detected present an extremely low risk to customers’ computers or the TomTom GO 910. To date, no cases of problems caused by the viruses are known.
How to detect the virus
In the isolated cases that a virus was detected, it was found when the TomTom GO 910 was connected to the computer and for example a back-up of the content on the device was being made.
What to do when a virus is found
TomTom highly recommends that all TomTom GO 910 customers update their virus scanning software, and if a virus is detected, allow the virus scanning software to remove the ‘host.exe’ file, ‘copy.exe’ file or any other variants.
The above identified files or any variants can safely be removed from the device with virus scanning software, and are NOT to be removed manually, as they are not part of the standard installed software on a TomTom GO 910. They present no danger whilst driving with the TomTom GO 910.
Customers that do not have virus scanning software are advised to install virus scanning software. The internet offers many free online virus scanners like Symantec and Kaspersky (www.symantec.com or www.kaspersky.com) that will remove the virus safely from the TomTom GO 910 as soon as it is detected.
Any customers who experience problems or have further questions are welcome to contact our Customer Support department. |

Typical... my first 910 didn't have a virus, my new one... a virus.
Now cleaned using Avast (another free AV package which hasn't let me down in around 8 years of heavy use). |

More detail from TomTom.
This was released on 29 January 07.
Quote: | 'A small number of satellite navigation devices manufactured last year by TomTom were shipped containing malware, the company confirmed in a terse statement that raised more questions - and user ire - than answers.
An "isolated, small number" of TomTom's GO 910 models produced in September and November may be infected with a virus, TomTom warned, following a report over the weekend that one of the company's satnav devices packaged two separate Trojans at no charge. They included the win32.Perlovga.A and TR/Drop.Small.qp Trojans, which were stowed away within the copy.exe and host.exe files.
TomTom's advisory rates the malware as low-risk and says users should update their virus scanner's definitions and let it at the wayward satnav device.
According to the report, posted by tech journalist Davey Winder, the Trojans were included on the hard drive of 910 models running version 6.51 of TomTom's software. As of the writing of this article, security providers hadn't provided an independent assessment of the payload.
Sophos, however, reminded readers that TomTom's blunder was only the latest example of a vendor slipping its customers an electronic mickey. Other examples, according to Sophos, included Apple video iPods that shipped last year with the Troj/Bdoor-DIJ Trojan horse and a Japanese subsidiary of McDonald's that shipped MP3 players containing spyware.
TomTom has yet to issue an apology, explanation of how the malware managed to come factory installed or what steps the company is taking to ensure such nasties are not included in future releases.
"Customers that do not have virus scanning software are advised to install virus scanning software," TomTom said. Until then, please keep your eyes on the road and ignore the porn pop ups.' |

Correct that bit didn't come from TomTom!!
However the viruses definately did so TomTom should offer an apology and explanation about how it happened and what they are going to do about it.
My guess is another disgruntled employee (probably ex-employee by now) was to blame! |
