Taiwanese GPS manufacturer Qstarz has launched a GPS receiver that they are calling the “Double 32” : BT-Q818. It has a 32 channel Bluetooth GPS receiver based on the MTK GPS chipset and extremely efficient power management providing a continuous navigation capability of 32 hours…
That is right 32 hours on a single charge in a 1100mAh battery is the claim. Not only that but the device has a smart power function. When the Bluetooth connection has been lost for 30 seconds the GPS enters a sleep mode until a Bluetooth connection is remade. The Qstarz BT-Q818 has a stand-by time of 360 hours… PocketGPSWorld.com will soon be receiving a sample to verify this and test the accuracy of the GPS receiver.
For the technical guys out there the device has he following specification:
Chipset: MTK
Positional accuracy: 2.5M in DGPS mode (WAAS, EGNOS etc)
Channels: 32 all in view tracking
Antenna: Built in patch
Sensitivity: -158dBm
Cold Start: <39 secs
Hot start: <1 sec
Battery: 1100 mAh re-chargeable Li-ion
Charge time: 3 hours
Protocol: NMEA 0183
Size: 27.2x46.5x20 mm
As with a lot of equipment now the device is charged using a standard mini-USB interface allowing it to be charged from the supplied mains adapter, a car charger, or a PC.
The Qstarz has a price tag of €89 approx £60 or US$115. Contact Qstarz for details of your nearest stockist at www.Qstarz.com _________________ Mike Barrett

They certainly do work well. I am currently reviewing one and the performance I have seen is excellent beating the SiRFStarIII systems in some respects. _________________ Mike Barrett
