|
|
Hi. I’m on the verge of buying a TomTom One GB. (New style).
I’ve had a read through the FAQ’s and stickys and think I have answered 2 of my main 3 questions,
Does the TomTom One accept the speed camera download from here – Yes!
Does the GB edition maps cover Northern and Southern Ireland – Yes!
Please correct me if I’m wrong!
Hopefully someone can help with this one-
On the TomTom One Can you set it to automatically log a journey that you take (say at a point every few miles) and use this at a later date to review or replay the route you took?
Your help would be much appreciated, Thanks, Carl. |

Thanks Darren – Not really the result I wanted but hey-ho!
So, do the more expensive GO series do this (510/710 etc)?
I’ve seen it done, just don’t know what device it was on.
(Apologies for the title spelling also – dunce!) |

None of the TomTom products offer log functionality, there are some unsupported 3rd party logging hacks around though. _________________ Darren Griffin |

You can log a journey with "Tripmaster".

Will that software allow me to view the journey log in the form of the TomTom road map?
Failing that, is there any other brands which have this Log Functionality? Garmin Nuvis? |

Tripmaster allows you to save your route in various formats, including a TomTom itinerary file. You can then call up this itinerary and view it on the TomTom map.
It is also perhaps possible to import it into a computer program like Google Earth or Autoroute with a few manipulations. |

ITNConv is the easiest to use, but there is also POIConverter. _________________ Henry |

Thanks for all your replies and pointers.
When reading through some of this third party software they only make references to TomTom GO software. Is the new TomTom ONE software similar to GO with regard to adding these extra programs? |

Yes, all the TomTom models use the same software. |

not to put the proverbial spanner in the works here.... but although the regional version 'covers' GB and ireland it uses the Teleatlas mapping which isn't great for here... where as the European version uses the navteq mapping which has much better coverage of ireland. This is the version i purchased and it seems good fro ireland. The guy in halfords wouldn't even sell me the GB one in Belfast as he said it was useless. |

Ah – spanner indeed! :o
I’m only looking at going to Ireland twice next year so surely the maps would be OK for my occasional use? Will have to try and have a play inputting an Irish destination before buying. |

You have to be a bit careful here... TeleAtlas maps for Ireland WERE useless, but the situation has improved hugely. Unfortunately, mud sticks (everyone still thinks Fiat cars rust terribly, when they sorted that out years ago!).
There's no better way than having a play with one yourself, and also you can ask on the forums if someone can check out a specific area you are interested in on their map. |

Yup probably for the best . I've personally not used the latest Teleatlas maps here before. The ones from tomTom V5 had good coverage of main routes, and the Citys. But once you got unto country roads there was nothing. May be better now.... But you'd need to try before you buy |
