I have just spoken to Tomtom about saftey cameras. On the new software i have bought TomTom NAVIGATOR 6 - Software & Maps of Western Europe (DVD) this disc did not have them installed.A batch of discs that was sent out had the file omitted. They emailed me a link but it is not working at the moment.
Is the data base on this site a better version.

Well we think so, much more frequent updates, cheaper, better coverage and a forum for support plus on-line reporting. With ours you can also adjust the warning distance and use custom sound files for the warnings, neither of these are user configurable using TomToms version.

I would agree that the pocketgpsworld's database has more cameras, is more frequently updated and has a better subdivision of cameras by type.

I used to use POI Handler but found many of the cameras were just incorrectly reported (e.g. trafficmasters as mobile speed cameras) by people who I assume just could not identify different types of camera. I am not sure why the reported cameras here are more accurate, but they are, perhaps a more interested type of user?

The TomTom cameras can be configured just the same as any other POI base file as in distance to warning, sound used and if on route within TomTom.

However the TomTom camera files do not work with the POI editors I have or with my external warning programs such as POI Warner, as they cannot read the OV2 file.

The TomTom Camera database CANNOT be configured in this way, you are stuck with their chosen settings, they no longer treat Speed Cameras as POI's - the Database from PocketGPSWorld can be configured and set-up as to how the user wants - Mike

Can you explain what you cannot configure in TomTom? I have the lastest camera file sets (v434) downloaded via TomTom Home on Tuesday and there are six sets, 30,40,50,60,70 mph and "other". Each file set consists of an OV2 (overlay), a BMP (bitmap icon) and a VER (version information) file and is stored in the map directory.

For each set I can in Preferences, Manage POIs, Warn when near POI, select one of the sets, set "Warn when closer than" to any distance, select any of the warning sounds and then select "warn only if POI is on route "

I have just tested this and it works exactly as described above and all settings are saved and retained.
