rather than remove it, if you can put a note there, but also is there a way to automatically limit the number to download.
Like once the limit has been reached you can't click on anymore, or a warning saying 'Limit reached'? _________________ Triumph Tbird 1700. And now a Bonnie T100. |

Why not consider limiting the maximum number of subcats in any single download to 20, you could have Fuel_01 and Fuel_02 for example although this might take some additional work as some categories would require upto 4 or 5 downloads, but a user could still concatenate the various files to produce a single ov2 file - Mike |

I'm not a programmer so cannot comment on how feasible such suggestions are but I do know that the vast majority download one or two categories only.
The demand on processor time imposed by those who seek to harvest vast numbers of our POIs in one hit is untenable and as such we have no desire to devote time and resource to a solution that caters for the few who wish to do so.
Those who wish to can invest their own energy downloading in batches and combining at their leisure. This usage is outside the scope of the service, _________________ Darren Griffin |

No one is shouting that you must fix it, we know it's a free service and very appreciated it is too.
The original suggestion was just to mention the limitation at "point of sale" to stop lots of people getting into difficulties and clogging up the forums (using more bandwidth) with the same question.
That's now been done, so hopefully that's the end of it. |

I should clarify perhaps that my 'rant' was as much a response to the emails and PM's I get bemoaning the fact that a causal user cannot grab every POI we have easily.
The posts here did not deserve my retort but it is worth clarifying that we offer a service for free and for the large part it is well received and works.
So apologies to all for my fiery reply! _________________ Darren Griffin |

Don't worry, it served as a much needed nudge that a note was required, sometime it takes big hint for me to take note! _________________ Darren Griffin |

Hi and Welcome!
What's the file called? (Details like that really help speed up the answer!)
You're right that you should end up with either one file with an .ov2 extension AND one file with a .bmp (the icon) if you've selected a combined download, or several .ov2 files all with matching .bmps if you selected the separate files.
It sounds like you might have a corrupted download. Usual reason for that is trying to combine too many categories at once (note that if you tick "just" the accommodation box for example, you are actually ticking dozens of "sub-categories" which you can see if you click on the little plus sign to the left of the tick-box).
Try starting with just one or two to see if that works, and allso try using the "show link" option on the download page. |

Hi guys. I am need of help. I've just downloaded my Free POI's off this great site and have transferred them into my Tom Tom Go 910, however they dont seem to be showing on my screen? I have noticed that when docked the G: Drive TomTom POI's show as .tlv files, but the two files that I have downloaded are Bitmap and OV2 files, do I combine them? if so how?
Many thanks in advance. |
