Greetings everyone. Just a quick question for a newbie. I downloaded files from the POI data base and installed them after reading the FAQ file. Everything works great! Thanks for the FAQ worked like a charm. I just have two questions. How do I update my own POI file? Do I have to enter each one on my TT, or is there a program from TT that allows me to do it on my PC? Last question may not belong in this forum so feel free to point me to the right forum. One thing I noticed after owning another GPS is that the TT does not announce the street or highway name to turn on when you have inputed a route. Does anyone know if I can change this? Thanks for your help!
PM me if you think it's easier!!! Cheers |

PM me if you think it's easier!!! Cheers | You haven't said which TT device you have. For this to work you need a TT device which has Text to Speech feature and a computer voice.
You set it to use a computer voice, then choose the various items for that voice to deal with - all these are under "Change Preferences" .... "Voice Preferences." _________________ Dennis

Sorry, It's a TT one. It has voice but doesn't announce the street to turn on etc. It will only say .5 miles or 400 yards etc. I looked under pref's but didn't see anything. I'll look again. Thanks.
Almost forgot. What about the POI's? Cheers! |

Are you referring to the pre-installed POIs such as Hospitals, Railway stations etc? If so then you can't. If you're referring to POIs you have created yourself then I'm not sure what it is you are after?

As has been said, only certain premium TomTom's have this feature called Text To Speech. We need to know what model TomTom you have before we can say if you should have this feature or not? _________________ Darren Griffin |

Does he mean a TT one, or a TT ONE? _________________ Dennis

Ah good point, well if it is a TomTom ONE then the answer is it does not have Text To Speech and I apologise for missing the obvious albeit in lower case _________________ Darren Griffin |

Well, I am looking at my TT right now and I can't tell what model I have. I remember it being a Tomtom one LE when I bought it. I am reading the version right now and it says Device AK*** BA***. App 7.162. OS: 2327 GPS v1.21. Boot 5.3026.
I am thinking that it doesn't have text to speech either. I was just wondering if there's any way to add the feature to it etc. It's a shame if I have to return it because I've heard good things about TT's. There are several things I like about it already such as showing your speed when you have a route planned. My old one didn't show that. If anyone has any suggestions as to a better GPS to buy please speak up. I am on a budget and don't need all the bells and whistles just something that is simple to use. Cheers.

A TomTom ONE cannot use the Text To Speech system it is not even possible to add it to the device, for reading out road names you will need one of the following TomTom Products:
910 (older unit with full Europe and North American mapping)
520 (UK Mapping)
720 (Full Europe mapping)
920 (Full Europe and North American mapping)
The text to speech is only available on the higher end products which means you get all the bells and whistles. - Mike |

Loads must have done, I guess...
The usual suggestions are:
1. Try again
2. Try the "show link" option
3. Try a different browser |

Hi going away tomorrow and trying to get one poi which is the PUB.
I have been on the download site and after 1 hour only managed to download the PUB & CARVERY POI.
When trying to download the PUB POI i do not get the list of POI available but a message to say loading poi if still loading after 1 minute click on refresh,i have been doing this now for about 45 minutes but no list what so ever.
Can anyone email this to me or supply a link. The only way i could download the PUB & CARVERY POI was to put a tick in the link box which then showed me a zip file called xyzPOI ZIP.I am now after the PUB POI thanks very much.TomTom one v2 |
