Hi all,
I'm new here!
I emailed tom tom with a simple question but they couldn't answer it, Please tell me if anyone can answer this question i sent:-
Where do i find the map keys for the type of roads shown on the maps or can you drive on all the roads that tom tom show! (I drive green lanes and use navigator 6 on gps but not 100% if im supposed to drive them )Some lanes say "No access" but tom tom shows it on the gps map as a road.
Can you buy os 1;25,000 maps.
Tom tom answered:-
Dear customer,
Sorry, but we do not have any solutions for your request.
TomTom is mainly for road navigation.
We suggest to search on the TomTom user forums.

Their answer may not be helping you but it is correct. They only focus on public streets, and mark the few private streets they show as being "not in a navigable area"
If you want cross country / outdoors navigation you need a different program. _________________ Lutz
If you search around there is a program called 'Color Scheme Editor' , I've used it on the TT Go range, don't know if it is compatible with PDA. The good thing about this program is that it lists all the different types of roads and map objects that are displayed and lets you play with the colours to make a custom scheme file.
Anyhow TT/Tele Atlas categorise roads by labels such as:
Motorway, Major International Road, Secondary Road, Connecting Road, Local Road, Tollroad. Also there are many other map objects such as Runway, Railroad, Pedestrian Zone etc..
These road types may or may not correspond to those on an OS maps or road atlases, I must admit I'm unsure if there is a direct correlation. I suspect the TT categories are optimised for car navigation purposes.
I could try and find out the default colours and categories but if you play around with the program you'll see what I'm getting at.
