I recently purchased an XGPS TomTom Custom Powered Mount from Handtec for a Dell Axim X51V . The mount works fine from the cigarette lighter socket but I would like to hardwire it into the cars 12 volt system, which is possible according to the advert. However, Handtec can't confirm how this is achieved ie Is the mount capable of regulating a 12v supply down to 5v and do you use the same input connection as the cigarette lighter supply. Will I need to install an external 12v -5v regulator?
Other enquiries have also given similar responses.

Can anyone help.

Thanks,

Howard

Howard, simply wire in another cig socket and connect the mount cable including the plug (which contains a voltage regulator) to this, suitable sockets are sold by Maplins.
Make sure the extra socket is connected to a fused outlet on the vehicle, and take extra care working behind the dashboard if your car is equipped with airbags.
Once in position tape up the mated connectors so they can't work loose, and secure into position with a couple of plastic ty-wraps
DO NOT CUT THE PLUG OFF THE CRADLE WIRING - Mike
