Didn't work for me. My I3 has been on 2.7 all along - I've been getting the nag for a couple of months now...

Hi Toothandnail,
Maybe it's the act of 'going back' that does the trick. You could try it' it is reversable. |

Hi all,
What are the advantages of updating the maps to V9 please. I have sent for the update disc but was wondering do I really need to update the mapping on my nuvi. I only really need the uk maps as I have no intention of going abroad , driving anyway.
Is this update going to make all that much difference to the uk maps?
Thanks ....Dilwyn _________________ ***************************************

The main published differences will be for Ireland and Eastern Europe.
I visited Ireland with the caravan for three weeks in June and the v8 CityNavigator was really poor! I would update for Ireland if I was returning there next year. For those members living in Eire it will mean that Garmin units will have coverage similar to GB, at last.
You can view the v9 on Garmin's website and compare it with your v8.
So this time around I will not be upgrading [it cost me £54 for the v8 upgrade].
The CityNavigator Europe v9 NT version is the only version available at present, I would require the non NT version for my iQue. |

Hi
My I3 has V8 maps on board ( not on Transflash ), with V2.9 s/w.
Have had a V9 update e-mail from Garmin but no nagging screen yet .
Hope I never get it.
There seem to be several small differences between on-board and transflash map versions. |

Thanks Strumble, might not be worth the £46.00 I`ve seen mentioned then if its only ireland and eastern europe. I thought that the uk mapping might have been updated ie: new streets and road layouts etc speed limits around towns maybe as quite a few now I get bongs for thirty when the road has been changed to forty mph.

Well after 5 years with Garmin units and software you've mentioned something I missed!! Speed limits???? Tell me more!
I'm sure that some new UK roads will be added to v9, but think of one and look on the Garmin website viewer to see if it is within the new version. |

Sorry forgive me if this question has been asked or answered before.
Why should people who purchased an I3 like mine after the date mentioned get theirs for free? I bought mine about April, shouldnt that entitle me to the free update? |

I bought mine in August with V8 maps from Comet. I did not register it until December and when asked for date of purchase I typed in an October date which was after the release of V9. This has allowed me to receive a free unlock code for V9 and I am awaiting the arrival of the CD/DVD with the new maps like others on this thread. I can't remember the exact sequence but first I registered as dmentioned above, then went through the procedurefor ordering the V9 maps on the Garmin site (had a couple of goes first before it worked, then received an automatic message for unlocking my V8 maps (don't think I need this). Then received message saying new maps would be delivered/dispatched with message that I need to go back to get a V( unlock code. Did this and received the V9 unlock code by email with no mention of a fee. I assume when the maps arrive it should all work provided I can somehow transfer the new maps to the transflash card. Don't know how just yet.
The original V8 was limited to region 2 (french edition!) but the V9 maps appear to be "all regions deluxe)
The moral(!) of this story appears to be that if you have an older unit and haven't registered it yet then best to make sure you say that you did not purchase it until after the release date 1 Sept 06 and I think this will get you a free update. |

Maybe I didnt explain properly, what I mean is , travelling along a road in Llandudno, get a bong and 30mph warning, but the road sign shows 40mph. So I assumed that the new maping would show the new limits set by local authorities also newish! housing estates and road layouts / new roads like the one in my hometown which has only recently been completed, last four months. Mind you, that probably wouldnt be on it anyway.
Thanks for the replies,
Regards....Dil _________________ ***************************************

Is it just me, or is anyone else uneasy about people using this forum to announce how to obtain updates to which they are not entitled? _________________ Garmin I3 October 2006

If you can pinpoint the road the camera data can be updated to reflect the new speed limit. |
