Mio - What is the ladder?

Every so often in cockpit mode I get what looks like a vertical "ladder" between the map and the left hand "instrument" bit. Anyone know what it means?

yes i think that if you look closely this ladder appears at the 300 yard warning and is progressively filled with black until you reach the turn or whatever and then it disappears

logical but not as big as the numerical display so i'm not convinced of it's usefulness

Thanks guys - I had not correlated the ladder with anything. Makes sense but I agree not very useful. :-)
