I have a tomtom one (V1) that I upgraded recently online to firmware v6.520 and European map v660 (for Euro80).

Am I right in thinking that the new maps contain information on the speed limit of the road you are currently on?

I expected vehicle speed to be green when at or under the limit, changing to red when over. However, I just get the speed in white as I did before the map and firmware upgrade.

I have been through all the options, but can't seem to find a way of activating this option.

Any help gratefully received - this was one of the new features I upgraded for, so I'm very frustrated that I can't seem to make it work.

Thanks, Dave.

Ha Ha... if you find out how its done, you will make the day of a few people here who would love to just have the old speed display!
AFAIK it's never green, just a (dingy) red, and flashing red when you exceed the limit.
I haven't got the new map yet, so can't be certain, but I do know that the speed limit is only encoded for SOME roads (mostly major routes) so maybe it only shows in the AA/BB format in red on those roads?

Just been on the A205 - London South Circular - which is as major as A roads get, and yet the display is still white irrespective of speed.

Can anyone confirm if Euro map v660 and firmware v6.520 are the latest versions and if the speed limit function should be available?

Thanks, Dave.

The local roads around the South Hams in Devon have the new speed limits..........even the new 20 mph zones are on there.

The display is white XX/YY until you exceed the limit by about 10% then it goes red. At some speed ?? above this it begins to flash.

I did find one wrong limit programmed at 40 mph actual limit 30 mph

I have firmware v6.52 and mowe 660 and can confirm that it does work on my TT700 but it seems a little choosy as to which roads it operates on.
Try a motorway, it should work on that!

If the road speed limit data isn't present within the map you will only get your current speed displayed in white, if the road speed data is available to the device it will use whatever data is supplied by the mapping company to show you what it thinks the limit of the road actually is.

Bear in mind this is no substitute for speed signs and should not be relied upon as an accurate representation of the legal speed limit for the area you are transgressing - Mike

Ahh, didn't know that... sorry for duff information, dave XIII.
So it looks like it MAY be working, you just haven't found any roads with the limit programmed yet? How about trying running a demo route animation around the South Hams way in Devon, see if that works?
v660 and firmware v6.520 ARE the latest versions.

The following will display the speed limit and demo speed at the same time once the information is available to the device.
Go to Advanced planning select Address/ Postcode and enter FY43NJ, hit Edgeway road and a number above 61.
Now select destination address/ Postcode enter PR41AX select Mill lane house number 33.
With this route planned go to View Route/ Show Route Demo leave the speed set to 200% and play the route, you will notice for the first few mins there is no speed limit set, just vehicle speed is displayed, once the route progresses to the motorway the speed will be displayed as XX/70 then down to other values as the route is played out.
I have not yet found a route that can demonstrate the red flashing speeding scenario but no doubt it will be possible to locate one given time. - Mike

Thanks - good to know.

One final question, am I right in thinking that this speed limit display is always on with the new map/firmware, or do I need to ferret out a new option box to tick??

So long as you have the display current speed checkbox selected the device will display the speed and speed limit (where ever possible) - Mike

It does work on demo mode but with some errors creeping in. The main A38 dual carriageway between Plymouth and Exeter the 70 mph limit dropped to 30 in a couple of places on demo but in real life it stayed at 70. Having driven around a little more now most of the roads are not classified around Exeter but for some reason some af the smaller roads in the South hams are.
