If the power lead to my Tom Tom One isn't centre positive then it is centre negative Yes!
But the cigarette lighter socket is centre positive so how does this work!
Happy New Year

I don't recall saying you did! |
you said "going in guns blazing isn't always the best way" - implying I had in some way been rude to prompt this woman to be rude and arrogant. Sadly she has those traits in abundance wihout me needing to bring them out. |

It's not as simple as that dunk.
The cigar lighter socket is centre positive 12 Volts
The cigar lighter "plug" supplied by TomTom is not a straightforward connector, it also includes circuitry to reduce the voltage down to 5 Volts.
The cable from there to the little plug that connects into the Go or the windscreen mount has three wires, a positive, a negative, and a "sense" wire that checks the voltage at the plug stays at 5V (A common fault on an old version of the adapter was that this wire broke and the voltage delivered rose to compensate, thus frying the TomTom!)
Once you get to the litle plug it definitely is centre positive. My Go 300 even shows that, engraved next to the input socket. |

Well, it's now the 4th Jan 2007 and still no joy in getting back a memory card sent back under warranty last 15th November. I have had no correspondance whatsoever from TomTom. I phoned them late December to be told it was authorised for repair on the 6th Dec. And to top it all I can't even get through on the phone now.
it's a bloody joke to be honest. It's my retired aunts unit and I feel bad that I haven't managed to sort what should have been a simple problem, and can't even give her an answer as to what is going on. Are there any other numbers than the usual support line? |
