Help with Nuvi 300

As a new user of Sat Nav, I only purchased a Nuvi 300 a week ago and have loaded some POI into the unit. However whilst driving in the navigation mode no icons show up on the screen, is there a way of activating this function.
A second question, is there an AC charger that can be purchased for this unit as I cannot find one anywhere so far.
As a third question does anyone know if this unit can be used with topographical maps for country walking.

Any info would be of help.

The POI only show up when zoomed right in. I think Garmin intend them as destinations rather than additions to the visible mapping. Mains chargers are readily available; a search on eBay brings up lots of hits. I believe it is possible to load topographical maps but I haven't done it.

Last year Halfords had a lot of stock of AC adaptors, so you might find one there (although you may have to ask)...
