Need a little advice...

I am looking at purchasing an Ipaq 2215 for use with a GPS receiver. My question revolves around what kind of functionality the available GPS receivers have. Most of the GPS receivers that I have read about for the 2215 all revolve around route mapping. Although I will use it as a tool for that I also intend to use it for things such has hiking and geo-caching. Are these receivers and the software that come with them capable of this? HP specifically makes a product that uses the NAVTECH software but they make no mention at all about having the ability to track from coordinate to coordinate. Thanks in advance.

The receivers are certainly capable of this, but you need the right software for the right type of work. If you want Street Navigation then you need Street Navigation software like TomTom, Destinator, CoPilot, Navman, but if you want more hiking then topographical maps like Memory-Map, MapTech, Fugawi is best.

Thanks for the response. After browsing some of those products, I get the feeling that once I purchase a GPS receiver of some type (in this case a blue tooth model) I can use all sorts of software including topo and navigation.

That's right, in most cases the software you purchase won't be locked to a specific GPS Receiver (with exception to Navman SmartST Pro which will be locked). So you should be able to mix and match the software you want with the receiver you want giving you the best solution possible.

The only downside is the price, most of the software/maps aren't exactly cheap, and once you look at a StreetNav system, then a Topographical system, and start buying other segment maps it can start to get expensive.
