I tried to upgrade my Mum's TOMTOM GO 300 from version 5.201 to 6.520 on Sunday. She has a MAC so i dutifly downloaded TOMTOM HOME and made a backup (phew) before doing the upgrade. The 128MB SD card didn't have enough space so I removed some voices and teh TOMTOM file then copied over - fine. There was one error message referring to a deny(something) file.

I turned on the TOMTOM GO and now unfortunately it has the little animated icon saying the SD has no TOMTOM software. I can see files in the directory though on the SD card.

Now the problem starts in that I am now 170 miles away with her TOMTOM go and a User Manual disk but I couldn't find any CD with the original SD card software on. The backup I made is on her home PC and I can't get to it.

So in summary - is the original SD card software on the User Manual disk? If not can I download it from TOMTOM somewhere? I can't see this breeches any copyright since it only works on a purchased TOMTOM GO machine. I'm sure the maps directory will be ok so I don't need those.

Any help greatly appreciated - I'm in trouble as it is !!!

I'm guessing a file has got corrupted

No, the software isn't on the CD. That's why it is so important to make a backup (or have one nearby! Wink ) before you do anything.
The software IS freely available from TomTom, but the latest versions are only available to download via the Home program which SHOULD automatically download it or update it for you.
However, my personal opinion is that Home is worse than useless.
Luckily, thanks to "oldboy", you can get the files for v6.52 to install manually from HERE.

Thanks for the quick reply. Will try tonight when I'm back home.

Many many thanks.

Well I copied the files on to the tomtom supplied SD card and yes, all now appears to be working.

However, I now want to copy the files to a 256MB card. I've tried using an SD card reader and copying from the tomtom card to the new card but when the new 356MB card into the tomtom go 300 it is not recognised.

I've made sure the volume label is called TOMTOM but no good.

Is there a recommended way of upgrading the SD card and copying the software ?

Sussed it. The new card I was using was a MEDION SD card from a PDA which the GO 300 obviously doesn't like.

I tried a 512MB Kingston Elite Pro card and things were find. I guess there is therefore a certain spec needed for teh GO SD cards.

I hope this thread is useful to other people.

Tim.
