Does Tom Tom 6 tell you which lane you need to be in, when say you were driving through a city with multiple lanes. i.e. stay right, stay left or keep straight on. Or similar intructions.

I hope someone can help me.

No, but it does tell you the distance to the next instruction and shows an icon depicting a left/right turn etc which gives some idea of what lane to be in.

Thanks for you reply skippy,

I am disappointed with that but it won't stop me buying the software,

I have had the v2 miomap software for quite a bit now and that gives me a verbal indication to what lane I should be in, which was quite a lot better than copilot when navigating through cities etc which left me guessing sometimes.

I would of thought tomtom would do it as well!

It does give some "keep left" . "keep right" instructions well before you get to a split in lanes.

Thanks Mike, I am pleased about that, but I persume it wouldn't give a road number to follow as well? I say that because mio sometimes did, like "keep to the left and follow the A_ _ _"

No road numbers.
It gives a warning like "keep left" and then a while later "take the left exit", or "keep right" then a while later "go straight on" when you should not take the exit slip road.
Sometimes you get info like "take 2nd left"
As Skippy said there is also the visual information.

It can display the next road number you should be turning onto.

That's true - but these instructions are only where a road forks into two.

It does warn you in advance of the turn, ie "In 300 yards, turn right". From my point of view, that's plenty of warning to get in the correct lane, but my wife (with less driving experience) often wishes it would warn her earlier.

Perhaps they should make it a configurable option?

The other annoying thing I have seen with TomTom (v5 anyway) is that it often says something like "in 50 yards, turn left, then turn right". But you have no idea how far the right turn is - it may be in 50 yards or it may be 500 yards. You can't tell how far it is to the second turn by looking at the screen either.

The Garmin will say "in 50 yards, turn left then drive 500 yards" which is more useful. Although it also says things like "Turn left then drive 143 miles" (ie, when you enter a motorway) which is a bit of a laugh.

They all have their niggles, you get used to them after a little while. :D

At least it does warn you of what lane to get into, it's got to be better than copilot which didn't give you any warning at all. I suppose you do get used to the software you are using

Regards

There does appear to be a difference in TT6 voice instructions as compared to TT5, in that the follow instructions seem different in that you get statements like "turn left then after 50 yards turn right", or "turn left then take the second right".

You still get the very odd instruction for a right turn such as "turn left then do a U turn" which I think is due to a map direction error on a filter lane.
