I have just bought my i3 from the Carphone Warehouse, like many others on the special offer. Now the map data etc is all stored on the 256 memory card, and can only store the Safety Cameras database and a few other POI's.

I have ordered a 500 MB card and mini sd adaptor online, but can I just copy everything from the 256 MB to the 500 MB including the map data?

And how can I go about using the internal memory of the i3?

Also guys I am 100% certain that you get a free upgrade to V9 if you bought your unit after 1st September 2006. The update should be out by the end of the year or January 2007. This info has come from Garmin direct. I get the update message too, you just have to live with it until the update is out!

copying the map data to a new card WILL NOT WORK

there are hidden partitions on TF cards to keep things like this secure - hence their name 'secure digital'.

you should have more than enough room for poi's. i have a 256mb card with maps installed and my 60,000 or so poi's only take up about 7mb...

when you add poi's do you use a card reader or put them on the internal memory? there are various differences between units now - see below:

1) original units had 256mb TF card with mapping and poi loader added custom points to TF card
2) internal memory only - poi loader added custom points to internal memory unless you used card reader and bought seperate card
3) internal memory but with maps on TF card - poi loader adds custom points to internal memory unless you specifically use a card reader to add them.

from what you say it looks like you have 'type 3' - the most recent

Yeah I think you are right, I have the 3rd option Unit.

I think I know why all my POI's wont fit on, I think they are been loaded onto the internal memory and all the mapping data is on the micro SD card.

I didn't know it had 2 memories that can be used at the same time. I have ordered a micro SD adaptor so I can load all the POI's onto the memory card.

My question though is how do I delete the POI's from the internal memory? Also does this mean I cannot ever upgrade to a larger micro SD card if all the data is on the 256 one??

This will work for sure. I had the same problem and simply putting the TF card into the reader and running the POI loader sorted out the problem.

Now I can't wait for Xmas so the wife can open it and get some use!!

Great forum BTW. Damn useful!!
