"Fast" calculation

Under properties - advanced there is a choie of calculaton mode - Fast, Normal or Strict. What are the parameters for the Fast mode - when I use it, it gives me a route taking very minor roads, rather as I would expect if I chose the shortest, rather than the quickest route. There is no mention of these modes in the CD Rom manual

it changes the way that tomtom recalculates routes. For instance, if you select fast, it will just tell you to turn around, instead of recalculating the route. So if you miss a motorway junction, it will send you back to that junction, instead of using the next junction.

As "tomjeffs" says, these settings affect the route calculation algorithm.

On most Pocket PCs, you're fine leaving this at normal. Some people, myself included, prefer to use strict - it's not that slow if you have a fast memory card and a reasonably recent Pocket PC and it may just give you a better route than normal. If you find yourself planning a route where strict is just too slow, you can always switch back to normal.

Fast can pick sub-optimal routes. It's nothing to do with the likely time taken to drive the route - fast refers in this case to the time taken to calculate the route.


If you want to change Navigator's road choices, experiment with changes to the speeds for the various road types.
