I've had my Nuvi 310D for more than 2 years, but have only recently subscribed to the camera database.
Everything that I have read indicates that I should only get a camera warning if I am above the speed of the camera, but I seem to get warnings regardless of my actual speed.
I am using the express settings in POI Loader, so I am using the default speed settings, and have the custom POI warnings enabled on the Nuvi.
I recently bought a Nuvi 250 for my wife and it does the same thing.
I am using the UK speed zoned complete and remove the old POIs from the Nuvi before loading the new ones.
Have I misunderstood how the camera warnings should work, or am I doing something wrong? |

Are there Garmin cameras on the Nuvis - did you disable them? _________________ David

From memory, if you are using POILoader, it is possible to load the PGPSW speed cameras so that they give warnings in KPH rather than MPH. That would mean that you would get a warning when passing a 30MPH camera at more than 19MPH (I think). There is a setting to load them in MPH/KPH can you check that? _________________ Jock

POILoader offers the options of feet & MPH, or Metres & KPH (from memory, as it's not in front of me).
I have checked and I am using the Feet & MPH setting. |

No.
There are only PGPSW cameras installed.
Also, I've disabled proximity warnings for Garmin cameras. |

When I was using an i3 I found I got a warning whether I was over the limit or not, in spite of many people saying on this forum that it only happened when over the limit, and fortunately that was the way I liked it! _________________ Anita

If this is the case, then what's the point in having the alert speed setting in POILoader if it does no actually make any difference? |

This rings a vague (possibly imaginary!) bell - or bong. Somewhere on this site I think there may be mention of a limitation with i3s in this area. POILoader of course is designed to work with many Garmin models, but not all of them 'honour' its settings. _________________ David

I don't recall ever seeing that setting, but as I no longer have the i3, or even POILoader installed, I can't check whether it was available in the version I was using at the time.
Edited to add: Actually, on thinking about it, the warning that you are approaching a camera was a single bong, with repeated bongs when the speed limit was being exceeded, so there would be a point in having an alert speed setting. _________________ Anita

POILoader works in 2 ways with speed data.
If the files you are loading do NOT have speed related data then POILoader uses the settings you choose whilst loading the POIs. Handy for alerting to Petrol Stations, Motorway Services etc. Most of the time no speed data is set otherwise you get alerts every 17 seconds....
If the files you are loading DO have speed data and / or contains any of the following words (GATSO, Mobile, RedLight, SPECS - like the Speed Camera files you download from PGPSW) then the data in the file overrides any settings you select in POILoader.
With the i3 the default setting was to only get an alert if you were speeding. Under the speed limit there was no icon or alert.
I believe Newer Nuvi units will give you an alert when you get close to the camera regardless of speed, called a Proximity Alert and a continuous higher alert if you get closer and are still over the speed limit called an Over-Speed Alert. I'll check both my i3 and Nuvi later and will report back.

Correction. POILoader is designed to work with ALL Garmin models. They all honour it's settings, unless the files are setup as mentioned above. I've yet to see any evidence here or on Garmins website that POILoader does not honour the settings on ANY model. |

Also using a file with a number in the name or placing the file in a folder with a name also creates a speed alert and over-rides any POILoader settings. Funny things used to happen when loading Q8 Petrol Stations and T-Mobile Shop POIs onto Garmin units.... |

I know we've had this discussion before, Paul, but my i3 always gave a single alert that there was a camera ahead, even when I was well below the limit. I don't remember changing any settings to achieve this, but I suppose I might have. _________________ Anita

Yes, to clarify, and to put PaulB2005's mind at rest I wasn't saying the limitation was in POILoader (long may it live !), but in the i3. POILoader may well set a default setting for individual units such as the i3, but I suspected that the i3 itself just gave a to the setting. _________________ David
