Mio 550 GPS slow to lock on

Subject Mio P550 takes long time to lock on:

My Mio550 has become very slow to get a GPS fix when I switch it on. I bought it last July. Looking at Mio550 website, it says that 9% of units sold before August had bad receivers & units should be returned to Point of Sale. What's your view on this? My Mio550 frequently takes much longer than 3 mins, & often loses a fix during use too.

I also have Memorymap, which I've found to to fix the gps much quicker than the Tomtom Navigator5 which is very slow to fix.
Is it the chip? or is it naff Nav5? I don't know.
