Hi Forum.

The ironic situation I find myself in.

I have never had any kind of driving conviction, and have been driving for over 20 years. Other than a parking ticket.

Recently bought a TTG910 and downloaded the camera database. Works nice and warns me when approaching speed camers/mobile locations.

Today I received a letter of intended prosecution for 82 mph on the A1 at Great Poton.

Grrrrr.

I takle it there is little/no pint in contesting this? I might have been speeding a little, but did take notice of the TT warnings.

Prosecuted for 82mph in a 70 limit seems a little over zealous. is this typical?

How much should I expect to pay as an increase in insurance premium? this years renewal was £280.

Grrrrr.

Ian

I have the ability to check my track on the PC [starts recording everytime I switch the unit on - the tracks are all saved on the SD card as far back as June 10th]

Do you have that ability with your unit?

There have been several cases recently where a car is used locally but had a speeding ticket issued 200 miles away. The car was 'cloned'!!

To get caught at 82mph, it would be interesting to see what the GPS data said! My car would have to travel at over 92mph to get a GPS speed of 82mph! [The track records show points at no more than 9 second intervals, or no greater 0.1mile intervals]

This cannot help you, but it would be interesting to compare your GPS speed with the 82mph!!!!!!!!!!

Does the TTGO910 provide a track function/is it possible to extract this kind of data?

Evidently the cameras are usually set at the speed limit + 10% + 2mph, so in a 70mph limit you would have to be doing a true speed of 79mph to get a flash. 82mph would obviously trigger the camera.

Then you have to take into account your car speedo could have an error of 10%. If it has then your car speedo would have had to be reading about 92mph.

Do you mean Great Ponton, near Grantham? From memory there are three fixed cameras with clear road markings within the space of 3 miles or so, one on the Northbound carriageway and two southbound. They have been there for many years and I have never yet seen them flash, probably because most people know about them and slow down, no consolation for you I know. They have been on the database ever since I have been using it (over a year)

There are a total of 6 fixed camera on the stretch of the A1 a few miles either side of Grantham

What distances do you have your 70mph warnings set for?

No, but you can add a track logger from a 3rd party. There may be others but I use this one.

The first thing to check is if you were actually there (car Nos get cloned)

2nd thing to check is that you received the NIP within the 14 day notice period (+1 or 2 days postage)

3rd thing to check is the evidence, wait a little while, then ask for evidence (picture)

and definately go to the above named site www.pepipoo.com and see if you want to take it further

4th thing to check is that you were actually driving. If there is some doubt (ei you shared the driving on that trip) and you make all reasonable efforts to determine who the driver is but you can't figure it out, then they will drop the charge (after a bit of bluff and bluster).

Skippy,
Just tried your location!
How do you cope with the bird 'droppings' and the spray from the fountains?

I saw the fixed cameras. This as a mobile site, but I saw no van at all.

Distance? 600 yards for 70 limits.

Perhaps the operator did what I have seen on the Dorchester to Bridport road.
He sets up the camera on a tripod and his van is down a side road on the other side of the dual carriageway.
Mind he does rest on the ground a crumpled camera sign but you would be lucky to see it .
I was going to take a photo of it as I am sure its not within guidelines for use. But he doesnt seem to be there at the moment

whooo happy 200 post to me CoPilot Out of here
