what i wanted to know is when you get gps do you need to pay for service or anything?? or just get the transponder and thats it it will work??

if so can any one recommand where can i find a system that plugs into the usb port or pc card maybe has voice instractions coming from speakers, with an external antena i can hook up, with all north amarica streets and highway's

maybe there is somthing even specialy desighned for big rigs telling them where they can or can't go

Please check ALK Copilot (www.alk.com) or Deluo Routis (www.deluo.com) - those systems also work with PCs and they have GPS receivers as well for the PC.

GPS is free to use. No fees except for the receiver price.

On a side note - you can also use a CF GPS (there are PCcard-to-CF adapters) but you need to make sure that the antenna has good sky view so CF is not really a good idea.

THe antenna that you currently have on the truck is most likely not GPS, and it will be more hassle to find the right cable connectors then to install a new dedicated GPS antenna (they are fine tuned to the GPS frequency - I am not even sure if a Sirius antenna would catch GPS signals - most probably not)

You need to see at least a quarter of the sky to have somewhat reliable results. So CF is inconvenient because you can't position the antenna optimally (in the front of the dash for example)

Some CF GPS receivers have a MCX or MMCX conenctor for connecting external antennas. That may be a better solution. Or you get a serial GPS with connectors both for the PC and for the Casio
