A friend and I will be taking our Harleys accross Europe next summer for 2 weeks and are thinking about getting some navigation.

We have looked at the TomTom Rider, and as a current user of TomTom for my PDA in the car it was an obvious choice. The Rider though has one major shortcoming for our trip, the Euro map card does not map 3 of the countries we are travelling too namely; Slovakia Poland and Hungary.

What can anyone recommend as an alternative which maps those countries?

All the Sat Nav manufacturers buy their maps from two sources - Teleatlas (TomTom) and Navteq (Garmin). The countries they cover depend on what data they can get.

I see that Navteq are starting to cover Eastern Europe, including Slovakia Poland and Hungary but it's major roads and capital cities only.

Because the Sat Nav market is exploding at an incredible rate, I suggest that you wait until just before your trip before deciding who has the best maps for their product and then go with that one.

Good luck! Thumbs Up
