Brother-in-law has a UK i3 with 2.70 software, v8 maps on a transflash card.

He has bought and unlocked MapSource Europe and has uploaded Holland and Belgium to a shiny new 512mb card, plugged it into the i3, swithced on and gets a message along the lines of 'use pc application to install mapping sofware...' or somesuch.

I told him to press the back button, having read this on the forum somewheres, but he says this makes no difference.

Any ideas?

Should work !
What software did he use to upload the maps: Mapsource, img2gps or sendmap20 ?

He used Mapsource.
Does he have to press and hold the back button, maybe?

when you say unlocked are you talking about metroguide and if so it needs to be loaded with sendmap or metrowizz(even easier)?

Sorry, not made myself very clear - he has 'Garmin City Navigator Europe V8' which he has unlocked in Mapsource with a 25 digit code on his PC.

He has created a map set including all of Belgium and Holland and used the 'send to device' transfer function, selecting the transflash card which is in a card reader attached to the PC.

You can only install the maps onto 2 devices.

Have you tried installing the maps direct onto the i3 with the card installed instead of installing using the card reader?

He has tried this, but only get base-maps (same effect as with no card at all).
