TomTom 500
Good morning, can you please tell me. Will the speed camera voices work with GENUINE TomTom camera files and is there any possibility of problems when updating from TomTom Home.
I am using version 7.903. Maps UK & Ireland Version 720.1802. Cameras Version 2383.

to the forum. It's so nice to occasionally meet a GENUINE innocent person - "Genuine TomTom camera files" and "TomTom Home". You have restored my faith in the Tooth Fairy!
Seriously, though, neither of the above come into our "highly recommended" category, rather the "Steer well clear".
You may find our FAQs about TomTom PNDs very useful, paying particular attention to the backup procedure using Windows Explorer, NOT TomTom Home. _________________ Dennis

To be honest I don't know. If they did then you would have to do a lot of work renaming the GENUINE PocketGPSWorld camera voices (.ogg files) to the same name as the TomTom camera database files, but I can't remember whether the TomTom camera database files use the .OV2 format.
In reality, we (staff, moderators, verifiers, and subscribers) think think that the PocketGPSWorld camera database is much better than what TomTom offer in terms of accuracy, number of updates per year, number of submitters, and not least our secret weapon "MaFt" - our database administrator.
Where the TomTom camera database might appear to be better than the PocketGPSWorld camera database is that some TomTom cameras are directional, i.e. they only warn when you're travelling in the dangerous direction. Unfortunately TomTom stopped making their own software compatible with the TomTom SDK (Software Developers Kit) so third parties are no longer able to produce add-ons. This is a real shame as the the PocketGPSWorld camera database is also directional, it's just that TomTom units can't yet use that information.
You ask about TomTom Home, as long as you make a "vanilla" backup of all your TomTom's files and folders to your PC when you get the TomTom and regularly back it up before you update it, then you'll be OK for restoring - should TomTom Home fail at any time. When it works TomTom Home is OK but it can really screw things up when it fails - especially if you don't have an up-to-date backup to restore from!

No you wouldn't. That won't work because the entire database is in ONE (encrypted/non-standard) .ov2 file.
But, if you use TomTom's preferred method, you can put ANY wav or ogg file into the 'sounds' folder and assign it to ANY POI file.
The big problem is that with the "official" TomTom-supplied database, you only get to choose ONE sound file per camera type, so you cannot have speed-specific warnings like you can with the PGPSW files.
