You would chose to not select "warn only if POI on route" IF you drive around without a destination set and still want speed camera warnings. If you always drive with a route planned then you can select this box and get warnings, either way this setting will not alter or affect your problem getting the ogg warning files working.
If you have the files in the correct place, and of the correct names, use the advanced planning option to set a route past a few known speed cams in the local area and listen to what happens (set the replay speed to 100%) - this saves bothering taking the car out this late! - Mike

Yes, they are all name the same (.bmp, .ov2 and .ogg, eg gatso_20.bmp, gatso_20.ogg, gatso_20.ov2) and they are all in my Great_Britain folder.

you have to put "pocketgps_uk" in as well

Ok, thanks

I have a curiousity question - Why would you choose anything other than "only warn if on route"? Why would you want to be warned of something not on your route?

If you are travelling with no route planned in tomtom it will not warn you about a poi if you have "only warn if on route" checked

One reason to warn when 'not on route' is when you have cancelled the route, you still get the warning even if you are not being guided somewhere.

Is there anything similar one can do to use text to speech instead? (on a 910)

annoyingly, their speed camera plus service doesn't allow selecting sounds (it's not configureable), and they don't turn up in the poi list, so I guess something similar could be done. I wish it could just synthesize a text.

If you use a third-party camera database (like the one from here), you CAN use the Text to Speech to create yout own alerts

Instructions HERE

(Note that they will only work if you are also using a TTS voice for the navigation prompts)

Yes, I've seen that, as I have another free database installed in the past.
I just registered to TT's database because of the realtime updates feature.

Right now I'm digging for what changes when I set that option for other POIS. If I could figure out where and in what format the data is stored... I'm expecting the file to be the map .cfg file, which I cannot tell what format is being used to store in it.

Also works perfect on the Nokia N80 & N73 Mobile phone.

Must remember ellio7's tip that you have to re set each gategary re warn when near otherwise you just get 3 warning beeps

Tom Tom have really come up with the goods on their latest version.

And many thanks to pocketgps for the camera database and tips, plus many thanks to Rays Tom Tom site for Liz's voice warnings

:D :D :D

Yes, it seems the TTS warnings are stored at the end of the MapSettings.cfg file. Unfortunately the formatting is a bit weird, so I'm not too sure how it refers to the poi file (yet)

I've downloaded the data.chk file for Liza and it is good!

I now am getting ready with the .ogg files and note the comments about re-naming them to the Pocketgps_uk_ ov2 and bmp files.

Most is self explanatory but which of the ov2 files refers to the simple gatso, mobile or specs (with no stated limits). For gatso there are ...._gatso_tba and ..._gatso_var. I assume it is ...gatso_tba - but am I right?

If I am then I assume that it will be ...mobile_tba and ...specs_tba.

Please confirm or correct me[b]

The .ogg file name must match the .bmp and .ov2 file - I will post a full list later.
For the record though this even works on TomTom Navigator version 5 - Just checked it out on my main PDA and its great! - I hate to think how much time was expended with all the extra files and programs that were created to get around what was a simple fix!

for both var and tba you will use the gatso warning, just use the same file for both but give it 2 different names,ie pocketgps_uk_gatso_tba.ogg and pocketgps_uk_gatso_var.ogg.
It may seem easier to just knock off the pocketgps_uk off the camera file instead of adding pocketgps_uk etc to the ogg files but it'll make it hard work when you have to update the cameras next month

Thanks. Done it - now to try it!

I have alterered the .ogg file name as these may well be more longer lasting than when I upgrade my ov2 and bmp files every month and would have to do it to all them every time I downloaded.

Can someone recommend me a programme that will make an .ogg file for say a .wav so I can try putting one in for Witherspoons!
