Hi Dave,

Does your i3 have the maps on the memory card or on the internal memory?

Can you explain thius further. All UK I3s should have full UK mapping down to the smallest of side roads.

Do you have detail set to minimum?

Dave,

Are you in thr Republic of Ireland?

I know that only major towns and cities are fully mapped there, one in the rural areas only main roads are maped.

dave, have you loaded any software or poi's onto the i3...if you have you might have accidently corrupted the mapping on the card...

Dave,

When you load POI's do you load them direct to the i3 or to the card in a separate reader?

If to the card, do you have a back-up of your card that dates back to before you loaded POI's to it?

If so suggest copying this back to the card.

===

When you put your card into a reader attached to your PC, does it read okay?

If yes, what files are on it?

===

Do you have other POI's installed?

Suggest you try overwriting the safety camera POI's (any others) using a small or single-entry POI.

===

Appreciate that it may take you a little longer, but any chance you could always type words in full as being an old(er) git, I hve trble rding txt-speak sum tymz and wouldn't want to misunderstand something you were asking for help on? Wink

Dave,
i think its time you contacted Garmin UK and sent your i3 back for a repair. Don't go into this, that and the other quite simply it worked and now it doesn't.

I'm slightly confused Confused as to what model of i3 you have did it come with a sd card or have you obtained a card (latest i3's have the maps on the internal memory original have them on the card)

Normally if the card (original i3) is removed the unit should not work at all and a display screen should ask you reinsert the mapping data.

Definately sounds as if something funny is going on!

You can bypass this, and just use the base-maps - search the forum for the key presses required, it was discussed when we were all sending our cards back to Garmin for the v8 upgrades.

Dave,
Try loading them straight to the i3 rather than to the card.

I had this same problem whe i first got my i3. I had to send it back to Garmin. they just put a new card in it but couldn't explain why it had happened.

I didn't have a card reader then to check the card but I suspected it was a corrupt PIO file that was the problem. I would have deleted the file if I had a reader and from what you say this now supports my theory.

At least we know if this happens again in the future it can be resolved.

If it helps, my file went corrupt when I cut and pasted Quite a few POI from different sources. Now i just stick to just speed cams and Mafts excellent database. I loaded straight to the card via the i3(as i said I didn't have a card reader then)

Mine is the i3 with the maps stored externally on the card
