Hi all,

Just wondered whether the firmware for TomTom ONE has been cracked?

NB. I do NOT want links to cracked files, or info on how to get them!

I'm just curious as there are 100s of torrents for the cracked PocketPC software - which allows maps to be downloaded without the need for activation - but none for TomTom ONE

I was under the impression that TomTom ONE used the same Navigator software as PocketPC, but I presume that PocketPC software won't operate in the TomTom ONE unit?

Can anyone clarify for me? Confused

(MODS: apologies if this is a verboten topic... I ask out of curisoity having just bought a new TomTom ONE v2 this week, not out of a desire to encourage illegal activity)

The simple answer is that the dedicated TT units use their own software written in linux I think. So TTN6 will not work on a TT dedicated unit and the software from that unit will not work on a PDA.

The maps are the only thing that are the same.

Why would the torrents have software on them that is free from tomtom?

you can update a ONE v1 for nothing - thats why the maps are on the P2P networks.

Pass on the first question.

As to the second point I believe that people are also able to break car windows and steal sat navs, or kick in doors and steal TVs. So why go to the expense of buying your own eh? Wink

surely u done equate breaking windows and kicking down doors with the P2P networks.. or do u.. he he

how about including cutting throats and feeding people to the sharks me hearties in there as well.. he he

i know its wrong but i think a realistic sense of proportion needs adhering to..

but to answer the first question i am reasonably certain that stuff for the hardware tomtoms cant be "cracked" cos there is link between the unit itself and the activation code..

having said that i am a bit puzzled as to why the new euro map i just bought on an sd card from tomtom did not ask for any activation code.. i expected it to.. in fact under my understanding of how things work it should have..

but then again having to phone home to the mothership before a product works dosnt quite gell with the "works right out of the box" claim does it..

but pretty much all the PDA moble phone stuff of all types is freely avaliable in the "shady" side of the software world.. let God be your judge as to the use of it cos i aint gonna be..

All ORIGINALS work like that! Copies need activating.

my copy didnt.. a straight copy useing a card reader to another 1 gig sd card works exactly like the original..

i received a product code with the map.. but unless i buy another tomtom after for example loseing my first tomtom and wish to use it in that i cant see any use for it..

just gonna hazard a guess here but i think when the new card is first placed in any tomtom it links the software/map to that particular device.. after that it or a copy of it cant be used in any other machine..

once your tomtom and software is connected to the mothership.. in theory the mothership can do anything its likes with it or your tomtom firmware..

i am always a bit dubiouse about letting outside organizations have access to my possessions.. but its getting more and more difficult not to..

TomTom PNDs MAY be pre-activated. The activation information is stored on the flash drive. But it's not a requirement, and you may see the scenario where you are asked to activate, particularly for newer map releases.

The PNDs haven't been cracked yet because you need much more expertise to get to the linux executable, and to link it back into the kernel. The PPC exe is wide open to script kiddies with IDA.

To be honest none of the GO need cracking, all that needs to happen is a bright sparks writes an activation/keygen program. Enter your device code, and out pops an activation code.

This has already been done for TomTom V5, I suspectt its only a matter of time before a V6 version appears.

Then could I sugest you take your quest to find the "holy Grail" elsewhere - the simple answer is to purchase the product you want to use, this way you get the latest software wthout the problems - Its up to you but you will not find information on this subject within this forum - Mike

The maps are not the same. Just out of curiousity I tried a colleagues TT one card in my xda but it said "no maps found". All I want is the latest maps, is it too much to ask!! ( cries into beer) Crying or Very sad

the maps _are_ the same. But nowadays program versions have integrated locks that only allow them to see a certain range of map builds. one up for TomTom.

"Yep .... almost exactly the same ..... one is theft with criminal damage the other is just theft. Both are illegal"

your mind works in strange ways.. when all crimes are the same.. simply iillegal..

the world is changeing.. i know big corperations have to keep control of what in essence is an uncontrollable media.. and it seems if enough people think like u the properganda is working..

i am not sure to be honest exactly what the modern definition of "theft" actually is.. i used to know and it was fairly simple.. "to deprive the owner permanently thereof"..

somehow i cant quite equate sharing a bit of music with your mates as doing this to anybody..

breach of copywrite is some kind of crime no doubt but so far we havnt made a very good job of placing it in the grands scale of things..

it certainly dosnt belong in the same category as kicking doors down and smashing windows.. not unless u are a hollywood movie mogul.. then perhaps it rates a "shot at dawn" status.. he he

and in truth i dont think there are that many tomtom owners out there who would turn there noses up at a "free" map upgrade from a mate if they thought it actually had their street on it and wasnt five years out of date.. he he he
