Hi,
My navman pin 570 works fine on the road, but when out walking coastal paths, moors etc it is of no use.
Is it possible to run other maps i.e ordinance survey or similar so it is possible to see where you are when off road?
Has any one done this and could you recommend a map varient and possibly a supplier.
Cheers |

Yes, the PiN570 is a PPC device with built-in GPS receiver so there are no issues with being tied to Navman maps. I use Memory Map on my iPAQ, then there's Anquet, etc.. _________________ Tim |

Not having a 570, I couldn't say, but it should be easy enough. _________________ Tim |

I run Memory Map and Smart St on my PIN . They are fine, but you can only run one at a time, unless you get a driver to share teh serial port.
I find that I tend to soft reset the PIN when changing from one to the otehr, as they are both quite memory hungrey, and it's a quick easy way to know the PIN is goign to go.
The only issue I have is that Smart ST shuts down some GPS scentences. If you want the GPS altitude, and have run Smart ST, you will need to run a program that resets the GPS to factory settings. I use winfast Navigator - see this site for it . |

Hi Robertn,
Thanks for the reply. I have been in contact with the manufacturers of memory map and they assure me that the pin 570 is compatable, it is nice to know from some that has proved it for sure though.
Do you run the pda version or the pc version which you down load to your pin?
What's the battery life like when out and about? I'm asking as previously I have been "car bound".
I'm not sure that the altitude thing is an issue as I am more concerned with where I am, and where I can go; rather than my elevation
What a great piece of kit the navman is though. |
